Aperion Signature SLIMstage30
>> Matthew: Hi, I'm Matthew Moskovciak, Senior Associate Editor at CNET and we're going to take a look at the Aperion Signature SLIM Stage 30. This is a sound bar home theater system which means it's self-powered and doesn't require a separate AV receiver and it's currently selling for about $600 online. The SLIM Stage 30 looks significantly different from a lot of the other sound bars you'll see on the market as it has a rectangular shape and its black speaker grill actually wraps all the way around the sound bar. It also has down firing sub woofers on the bottom so that means you're gonna want to keep your TV cabinet free of anything that might buzz or rattle. There are also rounded rubber feet on the bottom, and while Aperion includes accessories so the unit will lie flat without tipping forward or backward we couldn't understand why the feet weren't flat to begin with. Looking around back you'll see all the main connectivity options. The SLIM Stage 30 allows you to connect 6 total devices with 2 optical inputs, 1 coaxial input and 3 analog mini jack inputs. Aperion also includes plenty of cables in the box including a mini jack cable which makes it easier to hook up your home theater gear. For $600 we really would have liked to have seen some HDMI connectivity which is available on the competing Sony HTCT150, but it's still more flexible than most sound bars which only allow you to connect about 3 total devices. As for sound quality one of the main stand-out attributes is that you don't need to use a sub woofer with this sound bar. It actually makes an adequate amount of bass on its own so if you want to go completely sub free this is a good choice. It's also one of the better sound bars with stereo and music. A lot of sound bars can sound good with movies but fall short with music, so this is a good choice if you still listen to a lot of CD's or MP3's. All together it's hard to justify the Aperion's high price with so many good sound bars available for about half as much, but it's worth considering if you're looking to play a lot of music or you don't want to deal with a sub woofer at all. I'm Matthew Moskovciak from CNET and this is the Aperion Signature SLIM Stage 30.
