A chess board that can move its own pieces wows at CES 2019

Hi I'm [UNKNOWN] with CNET and we're here at CS 2019, and standing before me is a chess board whose pieces move on their own. I could actually play against another player, or an AI somewhere remotely who's playing on an app. This is pretty wild let's check it out. Mumbai based square off has a smart chess board that makes me wanna take up the game again thanks to the self moving gimic. Underneath the board is a robotic arm and magnet that controls the pieces which have magnets of their own. When you make your move you have to push down on the piece and then press down a second time when you land at your destination. You can play against an AI opponent and watch the pieces move by themselves, or a human opponent can challenge you via the app. App. The board also works online with chess.com, which gives you 24 million potential challengers. At a show full of flashy big screens and loud announcements, this is one of the most subtly cool products. You feel a moment of Harry Potter magic the first time a pawn makes a move on its own. It's a great way for people to connect with each other over long distances. As well as for people with physical disability who can't physically move the pieces but can play with a smartphone. The larger Square Off Grand Kingdom edition costs $449 while the Basic Kingdom set is $369. They're both available now on Amazon.com.
