Video playlists for the iPhone: So close, yet so far away

Unfortunately, the iPhone lacks a good, conspicuous method for creating video playlists for items that have been downloaded from other sources or converted by the user. We've found a method that almost works. It gives you a fully customizable playlist for all stored videos, but the video portion doesn't actually play. You get a static image from the video, and playback of the audio. Nonetheless, we're publishing the steps in the hopes that one of our readers can find a working solution. If you've found a way, please let us know.

1. Add the desired videos to you iTunes Library. By default, they will appear under the Movies section on the left-hand navigation bar.
2. Go to the Movies section and find your videos.
3. Select one of the movies you want to add to your playlist by clicking it, then choose Get Info from the File menu
4. Click the Video tab if it is not already selected (it should be automatically selected)
5. From the Video Kind: pull-down menu, choose Music Video
6. Click the OK button to save the changes.
7. Repeat this process for each video you want to add to your playlist (Unfortunately, you can't select multiple items at once and change their video type)
8. Now click on Music Videos under Playlists on the left-hand navigation bar. Your videos should appear there.
9. Organize the videos in the order you desire.
10. Connect your iPhone.
11. Click on your iPhone under the Devices section of the left-hand navigation bar.
12. Click on the Music tab, and check the box next to Include music videos
13. Sync your iPhone
14. On your iPhone, tap the iPod function, then tap Playlists.
15. Your videos will be stored under the Music Videos section, in the order you designated in iTunes. But, like we said, only the audio portion will play, with a still from the video.
