Workaround for Casio 3000 Series Digital Camera Connectivity Under Mac OS X 10.2.x

CNET staff

Earlier this week we confirmed a problem interfacing Casio's 3000-series digital cameras with systems running Mac OS X 10.2.x. (Parts 1 and 2), causing inability to transfer images from both IBM MicroDrive and Flash-based models.

Ryan Chaney notes some workaround methods:

"I also have the same problem with my Casio QV-3000EX, and I've spoken with Casio (who of course told me to speak to Apple). There are a few workarounds I've discovered from tinkering around:

  • Some cameras shipped with the IBM MicroDrive, others with only a 16MB SanDisk compact flash card. While the MicroDrive will of course not work under 10.2, the original 16MB card still will perfectly. But, any card larger than 16MB will not be recognized.
  • Boot back into OS 9 or 10.1-10.1.15
  • Go buy a Dazzle card reader

"By the way, Casio does have a firmware update (v. 1.003) from July 2002 on their website, but unfortunately it makes no difference with this issue."
