BoardScan updated MacFixIt's BoardScan has been updated with coverage of several new Apple TIL articles - regarding problems installing the iMac Firmware Update, problems HotSync-ing a Palm PDA, and connecting a PowerBook to a G3/BW in SCSI Disk mode.

Eudora 3 security risk affects the Mac Last August, we reported a security risk involving attached files in Eudora 4.x that only affected Windows 95. Here's a follow-up I don't believe we have reported before: a similar problem with Eurdora 3.x that cann affect the Mac. According to the Qualcomm web page, the solution is to turn off JavaScript or "create a new Eudora Attachments directory."

1984 site problem solved Regarding our previous report of problems loading the 1984 0nline page in Netscape browsers (especially Communicator 4.5), 1984's Paul Hughes informs us that the problem has been solved. "The problem came about with a small JavaScript that would not function properly in Communicator 4.5. This JavaScript has now been removed."

PowerPrint patch for Mac OS 8.6 posted Infowave Software Inc. has posted a patch for PowerPrint USB and Mac OS 8.6. Infowave states: "All PowerPrint USB users will require this patch after upgrading to Mac OS 8.6." However, a reader claims that his PowerPoint problems with Mac OS 8.6 beta vanished when he moved up to the golden master version.

Aladdin answers "Why introduce a new format in StuffIt 5..0?" The "question of the month" in the May email issue of "Aladdin Systems Newsletter" is "Why did you change the StuffIt format in version 5.0, and what is the benefit of the new format?" The newsletter provides the answers. It also points to an online "white paper" that covers similar ground.

Apple TIL article on TCP in error? Scott McCarty noted the following stated in an Apple TIL article: "AppleTalk utilizes four of the wires available for Ethernet communication, while TCP/IP over a 100BaseT network will use all eight. This means that it is possible to have a hardware failure that affects TCP/IP communication while leaving AppleTalk fully functional." On his GraphicPower web page, he describes why this statement appears to be in error. Apple may agree; the TIL article has been withdrawn - at least for the moment.

Browser previews Mozilla M5 is name of the latest milestone release of what will eventually be the Netscape 5.0 web browser. iCab P1.5 is the latest preview version of this forthcoming web browser.
