MacMedic: a word from Total Recall

MacMedic is one of the products covered in our Disk Repair Utilities Survey. Kelly Leopard (of Total Recall) emailed us the following news about MacMedic:

New release out The latest version of MacMedic is Mac OS 7.6.1 (correcting a previously reported problem). MacMedic should now be compatible with all OS versions from 7.5 to 8.5. Further: "The problem with bootable CD's has been fixed. We have tested MacMedic to boot G3s and iMacs, and our CD boots them with no problem. A free replacement disc will be sent to all registered users (so make sure you've registered!)."

Next release coming An upcoming release of MacMedic will include defragmentation/optimization features. This too will be a free update. Update subscribers will receive this new feature on their quarterly update, all others will be given a patch. This release also promises to "address issues of interface refresh as well as performance."

Problem noted "We have a found the problem with catalog tree records. It appears that our Unicode text encoding algorithm's are not correct. We are currently rewriting this routine. It appears that this is the cause of the primary complaints received. We expect to have a fix for this within 2 to 3 weeks. Additionally, we have hired an outside consultant to test and review our code for both functionality and logic."
