Log Out delay We have received several confirmations of slow Log In window re-appearance after Log Out (as reported yesterday). The theory that it had to do with items in the Login Window list that take a long time to quit had some support. However, a few users report slow logins even without items in the list.

J. Latta found: "I had the long delay problem with OS X 10.1.2. The delay was in some instances minutes. I got things working again for a while by deleting the loginwindow.plist file from the Preferences folder. I doubt that the preference file is the whole story as the problem was not totally fixed by trashing it. I have no AirPort connections, nor am I using any of the other mentioned programs."

Michael Wheeler supported a networking issue as the cause. Echoing the initial report, he writes: "My AirPort is in bridge mode, my router/switch is configured to do DHCP. I didn't have the problem if I used a static IP address on my hardwired machine."

Spinning beachball cursor delay Patrick Lakey had a variation of the spinning cursor slow down, as we also reported yesterday. In particular, he notes a long delay at times in Explorer (we have noted this as well, and have sometimes had to Force Quit the application to get it to work again). He confirms that the problem likely does involve some added third party software (such as the suggested Default Folder): If he logged out and logged back in as a new user, with no added software, the symptom vanished.

Linda Cameron confirms that disabling Default Folder X fixed this delay for her. However, Tom Knoff adds: "I've had the same situation in Acrobat 5 in X. And I don't use Default Folder X."
