Apple set to launch new "digital device" next week

Invitations are appearing in some journalist's mailboxes for an event next week to unveil a new digital device that is "not a Mac." The event will happen on October 23, the same day as the Windows XP launch. CNET speculates that the new hardware will be a digital music device which fits in with Apple's digital hub strategy.

Also, if it's music you seek, a new folder has shown up on iDisk, at "Software/Mac OS X Software/Extras/FreePlay Music" which contains over 2000(!) sound clips, presumably for iMovie and websites.
