Apple Aluminum keyboards (#5): Problems with sleep

Can apparently prevent normal sleep routines.

A handful of users are reporting an issue where the Apple aluminum keyboard prevents proper sleep from occurring.

One reader writes:

"I have a 12" Powerbook G4, the last rev and when the new Apple keyboard is attached, it refuses to sleep, it goes half-way shutting all external drives down and the LCD shuts off, but the fans keep spinning. Hitting a key or the powerkey doesn't bring it out of this limbo either. I've spent the last three days troubleshooting it and can find no solution. It started to behave this way after installing the keyboard update using Software Update."

Startup commands broken (cont.) Meanwhile, users continue to report issues with startup commands when using the new keyboards.

Ron Tye writes:

"I purchased the new keyboard for my first generation Intel iMac. I'm unable to restart Bootcamp by holding down the option key using the new keyboard. Also, I'm unable to reset the pram and start up with an installation DVD by holding down the C key. In each of these cases, I have to use the System Preferences Startup Disk to restart in Bootcamp or using an installation disk."

As previously noted, firmware updates may need to be released and applied to older Macs in order to properly use startup commands with the new keyboards.
