Pebble recently announced an update to the software running on the Pebble smartwatch. The update, PebbleOS version 1.14.1, brings normal bug fixes and optimizations to the watch, but it also brings some new features. Most notable of the new features is the ability to set a do-not-disturb schedule, silencing the watch during that time.
This is a feature that iOS users will be familiar with, as it's built into iOS itself, but Do Not Disturb being activated on iOS did not prevent the alerts from showing up on the watch. I personally started turning my watch off at night, due to the constant vibrating on my night stand and having no real way to silence it when it was connected to an iOS device. Android users who use Pebble apps such as Pebble Notifier and Pebble Notification Center will already be accustomed to a quiet period for the watch, as those third-party apps already offered the feature.
With the feature built into the firmware of the watch itself, you can be sure of a more consistent experience, and not one that relies on someone else to implement, no matter your platform of choice.
Setting a do-not-disturb schedule is simple once you've downloaded the latest firmware to your watch. Installing the update only requires you to launch the Pebble app on your iOS or Android device. You should be immediately alerted (as long as your watch is currently connected to your device) of the update. If you're not, force-close the Pebble app and relaunch it. You should then be alerted of the update.
The update process takes only a few minutes to complete. Once your watch has rebooted and shows you the welcome screen with the latest firmware version number, you'll know you're good to go.
With the update is complete, press the menu button on the watch, scroll to Settings, and press the menu button again. Next select Notifications; there you'll find the Do Not Disturb section.
After you enable Do Not Disturb you can enter a scheduled time during which no alerts will be shown on your watch. For those who would rather manually enable it, you'll need to visit this same settings screen but turn notifications to off or phone calls only using the option at the top of the Notifications settings screen.
