You can now search Facebook for hash tags, as well as tap on existing hash tags to view any public status updates that also include the tag.
The update, which Facebook released on Monday, also added the ability to make dinner reservations as well as view local television listings.
- To search for a hash tag on Facebook, download and install the latest version of Facebook for iOS from the App Store.
- When I first launched the updated app I expected there to be a hash tag option in the menu, but there isn't. Searching a hash tag is done via the same method all other searching is done in the iOS app -- through the search bar!
Type the hash tag, complete with the '#', in the search bar and wait for the hash tag listing to show up; tap on it.
You'll then be able to browse through all public posts that include the hash tag, and like or comment until your heart's content. Notice the hash tag is listed at the top of the screen, letting you know what exactly you're browsing through.
- You may also notice hash tags are now black, or highlighted, when included in a post. That's because the hash tag is now a link, which takes you directly to a timeline of related posts. When you see a hash tag in a post and want to see similar posts, just tap on it and repeat the like and comment process above.
Formerly a Web-only feature, it's nice to see this feature added to the mobile app, although the update does leave Android users out. Beyond the comic relief a hash tag can sometimes bring to a post, it's more useful as a discovery tool and now some mobile users can take advantage of it.
