Meet like-minded music fans with Moosify
This free app for Spotify, iPhone, or Android connects you to others with similar music tastes.
Moosify promises to help you "meet new people through music and places," without the actual need to go to any places to listen to music. Available as a Spotify app or for iPhone or for Android, Moosify lets you connect with people with similar tastes in music or near your vicinity. To get a sense of how the app works, I tried out Moosify on Spotify and my iPhone.

On Spotify, the app loads and forces you to log in via Facebook. After logging in, you are greeted with a grid of Moosify users. Clicking the play button below a user's profile picture starts playing a track from that person's Spotify library, while clicking on the star that appears when you mouse over a user adds him or her to your favorites list. There are three filters at the top of the panel: Gender, Looking For, and Age. The Looking For field lets you find people that have set up their profile find new music, meet new people, chat, flirt, or (strangely) dig for dirt.
You can turn on the Livematch switch to see only people who are currently listening to music similar to the track you are currently playing. The results did not seem to change that much, however, no matter which song I was listening to, from rock to reggae to jazz.
Clicking on a user opens his or her profile, where you can see favorite bands and a playable list of favorite tracks. There is also a field where you can drag in a track and send a message.
When setting up your profile, you can edit the "What you are looking for" field (it defaults to music) and add up to 10 vague to meaningless tags, but you cannot edit your favorite music, which is automatically compiled based on your Spotify top list and your artist likes on Facebook. (I like this last bit; it keeps people honest.) The app also pulls in your Facebook profile picture, but you can upload a different pic if you so desire.

The iOS app works in the same way, though you can sign up via e-mail in addition to Facebook. And it bases your favorite music not on your Spotify activity but on the tracks you have on your phone.
Moosify and its audience are still in its infancy. Perhaps you'll have better luck finding people in your area if you live in a major metro area. I live in New Hampshire, and the only other user Moosify found in the Granite State was the second profile I set up on my iPhone.
