Tweetbot, a popular iOS Twitter app, recently updated with the ability to let its users select a browser in which to open links. Here's how you can set your preferred browser.

Apple's Safari browser on iOS isn't for everyone. If you prefer to use 1Password's built-in browser, or Google's Chrome browser on your iOS device and you just happen to also use Tweetbot, you'll be happy with the recent update.

The latest update to Tweetbot, version 2.7, now allows you to set your default browser when opening links in your timeline. You can select to open a link in Chrome, Safari, or 1Password.

  • To set your default browser, navigate to the Tweetbot settings page. Under the General section you'll see a Browser option; tap it.

  • You can then select which browser you'd like to have Tweetbot open links in. Of course, you'll have to have either Chrome or 1Password (or both) installed for it to show up as an option.

At the bottom of this page, you can also see an option to open links in the default browser instead of opening in Tweetbot first.

A convenient feature of opening a link in Chrome is its ability to return you to the app you came from using the Back button. As you can see in the screenshot above, the Back button reads "Tweetbot," indicating the app you would be taken to if you were to tap it.

This is a simple setting, but one that users will appreciate having the option to use. There are ways to open links from Safari in the other two browsers, but they both require bookmarks and a few extra taps.
