Browse Amazon's wares in an entirely new way with Yasiv

Shop on Amazon in a more visual way with this Web app's related product webs.

If you're like me, you spend a considerable portion of your holiday shopping poking around Amazon, hoping to zero in on the perfect gift for each person on your list. If you find jumping from one product to another via Amazon's "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" list isn't getting you anywhere, I suggest you give Yasiv a try.

Yasiv calls itself a "visual recommendation service." What it does is show you a web of related products in response to a search query. At the top of the page is a pull-down menu where you can select an Amazon product category (including All Departments) and a search box. Type a product name, hit Enter, and Yasiv springs to life, forming a web of related products around your search term.

You can mouse over a product in the web to see its product name. Click on it and a panel opens on the right with product information from Amazon, including price, description, and customer reviews. From this panel, you can click on the Amazon button to open a new tab with that product's page on Amazon.

You can zoom in and out of Yasiv's web by scrolling with your mouse or scrolling two fingers up and down on your touch pad. You can also double-click on any product in the web and it will create a new web of related products around that product.

You can also browse a list of the related products in the small window on the left. Clicking on a product in this list shows its details on the panel on the right side of the page. You can reorder the list by popularity, price, sales rank, and diversity.

Roku HD (2012)

The bottom line: With its ability to stream hundreds of audio and video channels (including Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, and Hulu Plus), the $60 Roku HD would be our top pick for those seeking an ultra-affordable Internet media box -- if not for the fact that it's nearly identical to the slightly cheaper Roku LT.
