Protecting your privacy online sometimes seems like an uphill battle, but it is certainly worth the effort. Facebook has paired up with a data collection company called Datalogix with the goal of improving its advertisement system. The process uses information from programs like loyalty cards and pairs online data with offline data, putting your privacy at a greater risk.

Luckily, opting out of this service (and protecting your privacy) is as simple as following a few links and filling out a form. Read on to see how to do it.

And there you have it. Keep in mind that these steps will solve similar security problems about as well as sticking a bucket under a leak -- you'll have peace of mind that your floor isn't getting soaked right this minute, but you could save yourself a headache in the future by plugging the hole now.

Companies like the one involved here often link your online persona to your offline habits by looking for common data (address, e-mail, etc). One way you can keep your privacy secure is to give them as little information as possible to connect, like a separate e-mail account or pseudonym.
