Get Google Wallet on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus without rooting
Google Wallet may have been banned from the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but that doesn't stop users from figuring out methods for getting it running on their beloved device.
We have already told you about Samsung Galaxy Nexus users getting Google Wallet running on their beloved device, despite Verizon's wishes.
The previous methods to getting Google Wallet installed on a Galaxy Nexus were a bit complicated for the average user. The method required unlocking the bootloader, rooting, and then flashing some files onto the Galaxy Nexus before Google Wallet would work.
Thankfully, a much easier solution has surfaced. This one requires users to simply download and install the Google Wallet apk, as Android Central pointed out over the weekend.
If you are outside of the U.S., the requirement to root is still in place, at least for now. Regardless of your location, your Galaxy Nexus will need to be running Android 4.0.2 or above in order for this solution to work.
- Before you begin, make sure you have allowed apps from unknown sources to be installed. Launch the Settings app, tap on Security, and then scroll to the bottom. Check the box next to the Unknown Sources option.
- From your Galaxy Nexus, visit this XDA Developers forum thread. Under the prerequisites section you will see a link titled "com.google.android.apps.walletnfcrel.apk."
Tap on it download the Google Wallet apk.
- Once the download has finished, you can open it by tapping on the alert in the notification tray. This will open the apk and begin the installation process for Google Wallet. Complete the installation by confirming that you want to install the app.
Once you have installed Google Wallet you should see a $10 credit issued to a Google Gift Card. You can now go out and experience buying something without ever having to take your actual wallet out of your pocket.
