How to enable iOS 5's native Emoji keyboard
Installing an app to get an Emoji keyboard on your iOS device is a thing of the past. iOS 5 has added a native Emoji keyboard; here's how to enable it.
Until the release of iOS 5, third-party apps were the only way to get an Emoji keyboard on your iOS device.
With the release of iOS 5, Apple included a native Emoji keyboard, eliminating the need for yet another app to be installed on your device.
If you currently have an Emoji app installed on your iDevice and you are running iOS 5, you can go ahead and uninstall the app right now. You should already be familiar with the process to enable an Emoji keyboard. If you aren't sure how to enable it, don't worry, that's what we're here for, just follow the steps below.
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device. Select General and then Keyboard.
- Scroll down and select International Keyboards.
- Tap on Add New Keyboard.
- Scroll through the long list of languages until you come to Emoji. Tap on it to activate it.
- Going forward, whenever you pull up the keyboard you will see a small globe next to the space key. Tapping on the globe will then bring up the Emoji keyboard and all of the associated icons.
