Get a 360-degree view of Apple's Grand Central store using iPhone's gyroscope

Wonder what Apple's new Grand Central store looks like, and visiting it is simply out of the question? Use your iPhone or iPad 2's gyroscope to get a 360-degree view of the store right now!

If you follow Apple news at all, you already know last week was the grand opening of its much-anticipated Grand Central store.

For some of us, visiting Grand Central, let alone the Apple store now located inside, isn't something that's going to happen in the near future. To help give you a good idea of what the store looks like, Apple has posted some pictures, as well as a 360-degree view of the store.

The extra view uses any iOS device's gyroscope, affording you a unique view of the store. This interesting use of the gyroscope was pointed out by 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman.

In order for this to work, you will have to have a gyroscope equipped iOS device, such as the iPhone 4/4S, iPod touch (fourth generation) and iPad 2.

  1. Visit apple.com/retail/grandcentral on your iOS device.

  3. Select "View More Photos."

  5. Locate the pop-up of photos of the new store. (You may need to scroll around on the page to locate the pop-up.) In the lower-right corner of the pop-up will be a thumbnail for a 360-degree photo (zoom in to make it easier to find and select the thumbnail). Select it.

  7. After you have zoomed in on and centered the picture, simply hold your device up and begin moving it around. As you move, so should the picture. Move to the left, the picture will move to the left. Same goes for any and every other direction you move your device in. You can best view the picture in landscape mode.

Between a combination of the photos Apple posted, as well as the 360-degree view, you should be able to get a good idea of what the store looks like. Now, to find time to take a trip to New York and see it in person.
