How to start an iCloud backup
iCloud automatically backs up your device whenever it's plugged in and connected to a Wi-Fi network. There may be some instances where you will want to create a current backup, and this video shows you how.
Normally, iCloud will automatically back up your device whenever it is connected to a Wi-Fi network, the screen is locked, and the device is connected to a charger.
However, manually starting an iCloud backup will come in handy down the road when an iOS update is released, or when you are switching devices. It's always a great idea to have the latest backup of your information beforehand should anything go wrong during the process.
To start an iCloud backup on iOS 5, follow these steps:
- Launch Settings
- Select iCloud
- Select Storage & Backup
- Select Back Up Now
Make sure your device is plugged into a power source before you begin the backup. The backup process should take no more than 10 minutes, depending on your connection speed.
