Facebook to Google Calendar

Do you forget your Facebook friends' birthdays because you don't log in to Facebook enough or because you keep forgetting to take your ginkgo biloba? Consider using Google Calendar alerts and stop writing belated birthday wishes on your friends' Facebook walls.

Editors' note: This post was updated May 14, 2012. We initially showed you how to export a file from Facebook, which you could then import to Google Calendar. There's a better method, as noted in the comments section, using your Facebook calendar's URL. This allows you to keep a current calendar of Facebook birthdays, even as you add more friends. We've updated the post to go over using the URL instead.

Here's how to add Facebook birthdays to Google Calendar:

Copy Facebook birthday calendar URL

Step 1: On your Facebook page, select Events (under Apps) from the left sidebar, then click on the search drop-down menu and choose Birthdays.

Step 2: From the Birthday section, click on the search drop-down menu again and select Export Birthdays.

Step 3: Copy the URL by right-clicking on the link and selecting Copy link address in Chrome, or Copy Link Location in Firefox.

Add Facebook birthday URL to Google Calendar

Step 1: From the left pane in Google Calendar, click on the drop-down menu under Other calendars, and select Add by URL.

Step 2: Paste the Webcal URL you copied from Facebook, then click on the Add Calendar button.

Step 3: Check under Other calendars to see if your new calendar shows up as Friends' Birthdays.

That's it. Don't forget to set up Google Calendar notifications to send you e-mail or SMS alerts so you'll never have to send another belated birthday greeting again.
