Use Tunesque to search iTunes and Mac App Store from your menu bar
Want to quickly search iTunes or the Mac App Store for a song or app, without having to open either one of the apps? WIth a small app called Tunesque you can now search both stores directly from your menu bar.

Searching iTunes or the Mac App Store for a song, podcast, or app can be a cumbersome experience at times. Thankfully, there is an app that makes the experience a little easier. As reported by Lifehacker, a new OS X Lion (yes, you read that right. The app is for OS X Lion only) app called Tunesque allows users to quickly search both the Mac App Store or iTunes from the menu bar. Follow along as we show you the ins and outs of Tunesque.
You can download and install Tunesque by visiting the developers' Web site here. After you have downloaded and unzipped the app, drag it over to your Applications folder and launch it.

The first time you run Tunesque, you will be presented with a welcome screen giving you a brief summary of the app. You also are given the option to have the app automatically run each time you log in to your Mac.
If you decide to have Tunesque run each time you log in, you will constantly see the app's icon in your menu bar. If you chose not to have it run at login, you will need to launch the app from your Applications folder before the icon will appear in your menu bar.

Once Tunesque is running, you will see an icon in your menu bar. Clicking on the icon will reveal a search bar. If you want to search for an app (iOS or Mac), podcast, book, movie, or music, simply begin typing. As you type, the app will fill in results below, sorting them by category as seen below.

When you find what you are looking for, clicking on the listed item will open either iTunes or the Mac App Store, taking you directly to that item.
The small app has a limited number of preferences that you can set. To change settings within the app, click on the gear icon which is located on the right side of the search bar, then click on Preferences.

You can also change the country results are shown for, as well as change the color scheme for the app. There are currently only two options for the color scheme, light or dark. The last option in preferences allows you to set a keyboard shortcut to launch the app if you so choose.
Hopefully you will find this app in your menu bar more often after using it for a few days. The ease of use and speed at which search results are returned are truly impressive, forcing you to open the Mac App Store or iTunes only after you have found what you are looking for.
