How to follow Facebook pages anonymously
Facebook makes it easy to keep up with businesses, movements, politicians, and more--but there are plenty of reasons why you might not want them showing up on your own public page. It's easy to follow FB pages using a feed reader--learn how to get started.
Facebook and anonymity don't play well together, for the most part, but only rarely is it a problem. One possible issue is the desire to follow a page without letting friends know you're following. Maybe it's a business, a political organization, or a TV show that you want to keep down-low, at least from one particular FB friend (oh, let's just say it: your mom), but there's probably one or more pages you've resisted following in order to maintain your privacy. There's an easy way to keep abreast of new info without letting the whole world know. Here's how:
- First, navigate to the page you want to follow in secret. It needs to have a Wall in order for updates to come your way, but most medium-to-large organizations have one set up.
Step 1: Navigate to Facebook page.
- Next, scroll down to the "Subscribe via RSS" link on the left sidebar.
- Right-click or command-click the link and select "Copy link address" (or whatever your browser uses in its place).
Step 3: Copy link address.
- Head over to your favorite RSS reader and paste the link into the "Add new subscription" field. If you don't yet use RSS, it's easy. Google Reader is just a click away from your Gmail or other Google account page, or you can use one of many other readers.
Step 4: Paste link address.
Final result: Facebook feed in RSS reader.
That's all there is to it. You can follow as many as you want this way, and it makes life much easier if you want to keep some interests private or if you've got restricted Facebook access for one reason or another.
