A growing thread on the Apple Support Discussions forum suggests that FaceTime for Apple's iPad 2 may not be working as expected. The issue, which occurs during video calls made with Apple's FaceTime, may be a bug in iOS 4.3, not limited to iPad 2 owners.

ASD forum user chucknelson writes:

I had this problem on my iPad 2 as well. I restored the iPad and it was fixed, but during a FaceTime call I switched to the back camera and it froze the video on both ends of the call (but NOT the local video / video of me on my end and video of them on their end).

The first couple steps for troubleshooting most issues with iOS devices are the same. First, try resetting your iPad 2. Hold the top Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen goes black and the Apple logo appears.

If you're still experiencing the freezes, try doing a restore from your iPad's backup. And finally, if the previous two steps have failed, try restoring to the factory settings.

Users on this thread are finding that resetting or restoring their iPad 2 provides temporary relief for the problem, but invariably it returns. One user, TheDevilsAdvocate, reports that the issue happens on his iPhone 4 as well, possibly as a result of upgrading to iOS 4.3.

Another user, jollyguy23, agrees but has a possible solution. After a frozen call, try making a FaceTime call and once the connection establishes, end the call. Call back immediately and it should work fine. This effectively ends the need for constant resets.

Keep in mind that if this problem is a part of iOS 4.3, a fix is expected in the next couple weeks. In that case, keep resetting and try and be patient.

Have you experienced this, or any other, bug with FaceTime on an iOS device? Let me know in the comments!
