Anthony Weiner gets a new handle on Twitter

On balance, there may be worse things in life than sending someone pictures of yourself in your underpants.

However, there may be fewer more ill-advised things, especially if you've never met the recipient and you happen to be a politician held in some regard.

For his intimately twittered transgression, Anthony Weiner paid a certain price and that price was what, in some media, is defined by the word "disgrace." It seems odd that this word might be damning, as it is one so often used to describe politicians.

Some might have imagined that Weiner would seek a quieter, more contemplative life after events which saw the Democratic Representative for New York resign in 2011 for his socially networked unseemliness.

A decent amount of time has passed, however, and Weiner seems to be girding his loins for a run at the mayor's office. With this perhaps in mind, he has returned again to the place of alleged disgrace, Twitter. … Read more

LinkedIn CEO: Site will become 'economic graph' over next decade

NEW YORK -- LinkedIn will evolve quite a bit over the next five to 10 years and become even more of an "economic graphic" for professionals, according to the social networking company's CEO, Jeff Weiner.

Weiner, speaking here in a conversation with Business Insider's CEO and editor in chief, Henry Blodget, said LinkedIn will continue to focus on its current strategy over the next three years, transforming the way companies hire, market, and sell.

"As we move out five to 10 years, the vision begins to expand quite a bit," he said.

Anthony Weiner returns to Twitter, to Trump's dismay

Twitter has enjoyed the levels of discourse of a monstrous Roman forum over the last few days.

How odd, then, that former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, took a small step toward rehabilitating his presence on the site today.

You might remember Weiner. He got his direct and public messaging confused on Twitter last year and was exposed for, well, sending rather exposed pictures of himself to an unsuspecting woman.

A few hours ago, he posted a link to an emotional YouTube video about the devastation in the Rockaways.

Charlie Sheen Twitter fail: He tweets his phone number

It may not have been a tweet misfire of Anthony Weiner proportions, but Charlie Sheen's accidentally tweeting his phone number for all the world to see was certainly was a world-class Twitter fail.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Sheen had meant to direct-message Justin Bieber with his phone number. But it appears he must have used the @ symbol instead of "D" (for direct message)--meaning that every one of Sheen's 5.5 million followers could have seen the tweet.

"310-954-7277 Call me bro. C," Sheen is said to have tweeted before … Read more

Obama, GOP try to woo Silicon Valley leaders

President Obama and a trio of House Republicans are visiting Silicon Valley today to highlight their competing proposals for boosting the U.S. economy.

Advisers had promised that Obama's town-hall style event organized by LinkedIn would address questions about jobs, the economy, and "how to move the country forward." It turns out Obama's answers amounted to a single recommendation: pass his proposed legislation known as the American Jobs Act (PDF), which includes a mix of additional government spending, temporary tax breaks, and permanent additional taxes that would take effect 16 months from now.

Twitter gaffe sinks Congressman Weiner

Embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) will resign his congressional seat later today, The New York Times and other news outlets are reporting.

Citing two people with knowledge of Weiner's plans, the Times said he will make his resignation official at 11 a.m. PT after facing pressure from colleagues in the House of Representatives to step aside.

Report: Police examine Weiner's tweeting with 17-year-old

The saga of Rep. Anthony Weiner's social networking turns another page.

The New York Times reports that the Democratic representative from New York has admitted that as part of what seems like an extensive series of correspondences with a number of women, he sent at least five private messages to a 17-year-old girl in Delaware.

The Twitter exchange reportedly came shortly after the teen was part of a high school trip to Washington and heard Weiner speak.

Both Weiner's representative and the girl's family have reportedly said that the tweeting was in no way suggestive.

However, police … Read more

How Apple's announcement enables more Weiners

Modern technology is not designed to make you think. It's designed to make you do.

There's nothing wrong with doing. Unfortunately, though, as Rep. Anthony Weiner's pained, painful press conference showed today, instant doing can be your undoing.

In Weiner's case, it seems that all it took was clicking in the wrong box. Instead of sending his sweet boxer-briefs tweet by Direct Message he simply clicked the reply button. That would be the reply button that allows everyone to see everything.

Naturally, it took some highly enterprising political opponent to click on the yfrog link and … Read more
