AT&T's early upgrade plan, called Next, is winning over customers.
That's according to AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega, who said Next was exceeding the company's expectations for the plan's adoption rate. He projected 10 percent of its customers will sign up for the plan in the fourth quarter.
Next is one of a wave of plans that debuted earlier this year. It allows customers to put no money down for a smartphone and, instead, pay for the phone in monthly installments. The primary feature of the plan is the ability … Read more
Las Vegas is truly one of the world's great cities.
It's a place where you can let your hair down, or even wear someone else's, without anyone thinking this is abnormal.
Now, though, there's a frisson of doubt as to whether what happens in Vegas will stay there. Or, more accurately, whether what happens in Vegas will all fall into the dancing laps of the authorities.
Computer scientist Katia Vega from the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has created what she is calling Beauty Technology, a range of wearable cosmetics that conduct electricity and control devices. Pantech, apparently not wanting to miss out on all of the phablet fun, appears ready to unveil one of its own. The Vega Note has a fair number of similarities to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, including the large screen and a stylus.
On paper, the Pantech Vega Note specs suggest the smartphone should be able to run with the pack of top Androids. While its rumored 2.3GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, and 3,100mAh battery are to be expected in today's flagship experience, the Vega Note could have an edge on the competition with that fingerprint sensor, … Read more
John Legere, CEO of T-Mobile, had the room with his first F-bomb.
The event was last January's Consumer Electronics Show, and scores of reporters, bloggers, and photographers had come to hear what Legere had to say in one of his first public appearances since his appointment as CEO in September. Expectations weren't high. The audience, gathered in the typical Las Vegas convention center room showered in pink lights, had expected to hear the same "challenger" strategy that his predecessor had put forth the year before.
Instead, Legere (pronounced like "ledger") delivered a profanity-laden talk … Read more
So, the HTC First wasn't a complete disaster after all.
AT&T managed to get rid of most of its inventory, according to AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega. The move to a 99-cent price tag helped spur sales of the Facebook phone, which struggled to catch on with consumers.
"We sold a bunch more when we lowered the price," he said in an interview on Monday. "We sold everything we had on that."
It's unclear how many HTC First phones AT&T had in its inventory, and the … Read more
