Android 4.1 launches for Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket

Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket owners finally have their shot at Android 4.1.

Available as of Wednesday, the Jelly Bean flavor of Android can be downloaded courtesy of AT&T.

Users can update their OS to Android 4.1.2 by following the how-to page on the carrier's Web site. The update does require Galaxy S2 Skyrocket users to download the software through Samsung's Kies and then sync it with their mobile phone.

Jelly Bean offers a number of enhancements over its predecessor, as an AT&T blog points out.

Android 4.0 comes to Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket, Galaxy Note

Two more of AT&T's phones will get Google's big 4.0 operating system refresh today, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket (at long last) and the Samsung Galaxy Note.

The Skyrocket, which boasts a 4.5-inch screen, a dual-core processor, and an 8-megapixel camera, was one of AT&T's first LTE-ready handsets. The even larger Galaxy Note, a 5.3-inch behemoth with a stylus, is a more recent, yet somewhat quirky, addition to the Galaxy S II line.

Hey, what's wrong with a small iPhone?

Is a bigger iPhone a better iPhone?

The iPhone rumor du jour this week was about a big screen. In fact, "iPhone 5" rumors going way back almost invariably cite a bigger screen. Sizes run the gamut from 4-inch screens to 4.2-inch to, now, 4.6-inch.

The iPhone currently has a 3.5-inch screen.

And that's just fine with me. A smartphone should be as small as possible. Certainly not BlackBerry Curve small but not so big that it isn't compact. It's a phone, after all.

The brave new big-honking-iPhone world that Reuters claimed is coming (… Read more

AT&T announces slew of other devices getting ICS update

Looks like the HTC Vivid isn't the only AT&T phone getting the Ice Cream Sandwich treatment.

The carrier announced today a number of other devices that will be eligible for the Android 4.0 update in the next few months.

These handsets include: the LG Nitro, Motorola Atrix 2, Motorola Atrix 4G, Pantech Burst, Pantech Element, Samsung Captivate Glide, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.

Again, it will be a couple of months until the update rolls out, but we're excited. As hot as … Read more

Rumored prices for HTC Titan II, Sony Tablet P emerge

The latest rumors from Boy Genius Report suggest some juicy details about AT&T's planned devices for the first quarter of 2012.

BGR indicates AT&T is gearing up to offer yet another Windows Phone device on March 18: the 4G-equipped HTC Titan II at $199. There's word that the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD, Samsung Exhilarate, and Sony Xperia Ion also will debut on the carrier toward the end of March, but pricing is unknown.

Lastly, the rumors note that a Sony tablet (code-named Crystal) with HSPA+ will launch on AT&T for $409. I fully believe that Crystal is the dual-screen Sony Tablet P that has evaded a U.S. launch (despite being available in Japan for several months now).

There aren't any sources listed for the rumored information, but BGR has built a bit of a reputation for itself with several credible road map leaks in the past. Regardless, we still recommend you take this news with a grain of salt until things become official. … Read more
