Romanian arrested on Pentagon, NASA hacking charges

A 20-year-old Romanian has been arrested on charges of hacking into Pentagon and NASA servers, stealing confidential data, and posting it on his personal blog, according to a statement today from the Romanian prosecutors office.

Razvan Manole Cernaianu, an information technology student who allegedly used the online alias "TinKode," offered a software program for sale on his blog and also showed a video that demonstrated how he compromised the servers, officials said.

Audit: No customer data exposed in Kaspersky breach

An independent audit of a data breach at security firm Kaspersky's U.S. Web site has confirmed that no customer data was exposed, Kaspersky said on Friday.

A Romanian hacker site used a SQL injection and cross-site scripting attack to get access to a database on a Web site of the Moscow-based Kaspersky and publicized the attack on Saturday.

Kaspersky announced on Monday that it would hire database security expert David Litchfield to analyze the breach.

Kaspersky hires expert to analyze Web site hack

Moscow-based security firm Kaspersky has hired a security expert to investigate the weekend breach of its U.S. site, the company said Monday.

Meanwhile, the hacker site claiming credit for the breach said on Monday that it had done the same compromise on the Portuguese Web site of antivirus provider BitDefender.

U.S., Romania target overseas phishing

In a joint operation with Romanian authorities on Monday, U.S. Department of Justice officials announced racketeering and other charges against 38 individuals living in the United States and Romania.

In addition, the Justice Department executed nine arrest warrants, while Romanian authorities simultaneously executed several search warrants. Total losses associated with today's arrests and charges, unsealed in California and Connecticut, are said to be in the millions of dollars.

Speaking in Bucharest, Romania, Deputy Attorney General Mark R. Filip stressed the importance of multinational agencies working together to fight international crime.
