Two charged in theft of $40K from hacked Subway keypads

Two California men have been indicted for allegedly hacking point-of-sale terminals at Subway shops to steal at least $40,000.

Prosecutors accused Shahin Abdollahi, aka "Sean Holdt," and Jeffrey Thomas Wilkinson of hacking at least 13 point-of-sale (POS) terminals to install software that fraudulently loaded at least $40,000 onto Subway gift cards, according to an indictment unsealed in Boston on Friday (see below). The pair then allegedly used the cards to make purchases at Subway shops and sold them on eBay and Craigslist.

Hackers steal customer data from Barnes & Noble keypads

Hackers broke into keypads at more than 60 Barnes & Noble bookstores and made off with the credit card information for customers who shopped at the stores as recently as last month.

The company discovered the breach on September 14 but kept it quiet while the FBI attempted to track the hackers. Hackers broke into the point-of-sale terminals at 63 stores across the country, including locations in New York City, San Diego, Miami, and Chicago.

Buffalo Wild Wings testing iPads as on-table ordering system

As if Buffalo Wild Wings wasn't already great enough, the popular sports bar is now testing iPads as on-table ordering systems for its restaurants, giving customers the ability to choose their meals and pay for them without having to wait.

The iPads are being tested in Toronto and soon Minneapolis. Apple's tablet is encased in a rugged Hubworks case and can be used for more than just ordering your food. Facebook, Twitter, and interactive games are all part of the experience.

Apple's EasyPay goes Gap, lands at Old Navy

Apple's iPod touch-based point-of-sale system, dubbed EasyPay, had been rumored to be available for third-party retailers looking for a mobile solution to their sales experience, which may soon land in some major stores.

9to5Mac reports that Gap, Inc. has begun piloting the EasyPay (rebranded ZipPay) system at its Old Navy stores.

"We're told there is one per store and they are kept in a safe when not in use."
