It's 2012, and while many thought plasma TV technology would have died out by now, it's still going strong. Meanwhile, burn-in, the No. 1 perceived problem with the technology, is all gone, right? Well, not exactly.

What is burn-in? While it's possible to test for many aspects of a TV's performance here at CNET, one thing we have never been able to test for is burn-in. The reason? Any meaningful test of burn-in could potentially harm the television, and we currently we don't have the budget to go around intentionally destroying review samples.

Samsung's flagship Blu-ray player switches HDMI inputs, stores your DVDs in the cloud

LAS VEGAS--There hasn't been much news at CES 2012 in the standalone Blu-ray player space, but Samsung's flagship BD-E6500 has a couple of legitimately new features.

The BD-E6500 has two HDMI inputs on the back, so you can switch between two devices. That could be an attractive feature for those who've run out of inputs on their HDTV (and don't have an HDMI-switching AV receiver), although I could see it causing problems for Harmony remotes not used to treating Blu-ray players as switchers.

The other big feature on the BD-E6500 is disc-to-digital, which enables you to "sync" your DVD collection in the cloud, making it accessible from any device which has the Flixster app.… Read more

Dell revamps Latitude line with new E laptop series

If you have a company laptop, chances are it's either a Lenovo ThinkPad or a Dell Latitude--both have universally recognizable designs, and are capable performers in both small and large businesses. This week, Dell is unveiling a fairly major revamp to the Latitude line with the new E series, anchored by the 15-inch Latitude E6500 and 14-inch E6400.

Plenty of Dell laptop leaks

We've seen a few Dell laptop leaks in the past several days--but fortunately for Dell, one of these systems is actually leak-poof, or at least spill-resistant.

We already saw the Latitude XT2 tablet, which should be available in the fall of 2008, and now Engadget has gotten its hands on some product spec sheets for more new laptops from Dell's Latitude line, which is aimed at business users (as opposed to the consumer Inspiron and XPS lines).
