While a holiday price war is breaking out among laptops, Apple is staying comfortably above the fray with its iPad Air, according to Deutsche Bank.
About 60 percent of the 80 best-selling laptops at retailers that Deutsche Bank recently monitored cost less than $400, while 30 percent are below $300.
Deutsche Bank did a "series of online checks" that included Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart over cyber Monday.
"We believe this reflects the need for [laptop] vendors to close the pricing gap with tablets which continue to exhibit strong market momentum," analyst Chris Whitmore said … Read more

The US Justice Department is investigating alleged sales of Dell computers to Syria, the company revealed Monday in a regulatory filing.
The probe follows a New York Times report in May that Dell computer equipment had been sold to the Syrian government through a Dubai-based distributor despite US trade sanctions that prohibit export of such technology to the regime. A Dell spokesman told the Times that it was investigating a tip from an anonymous source about a possible shipment to the country.

Then -- as of Sunday night Pacific Time -- Apple removed the display, as MacRumors pointed out.

The iPad Mini Retina's speed seals the deal.
A lot has been written about the Mini Retina's display. For good reason, of course. Take a display with 786,432 pixels (iPad Mini original) and put it up against one with over 3 million (iPad Retina) and you notice the difference.
