Facebook's IPO whodunit

As Facebook's stock started its first week of trading, there were some startling allegations as to why the stock was tanking.

Facebook itself may be responsible for investors' tepid response to the social network's stock, which has been mostly falling since it went public on May 18. (As of Friday morning, Facebook shares were bouncing around the $32 level, down about 16 percent from the $38 IPO pricing.)

Initially, it looks like Morgan Stanley, the lead underwriter on the massive offering, was to blame for allegedly telling major clients it had reduced its revenue forecast for the company, … Read more

The Weather Channel gets it right on iOS

The Weather Channel is a free weather-monitoring application that provides many more features than Apple's built-in Weather app. Released first in 2008, the app recently received a complete overhaul to the interface, adding features that make it even easier to check weather conditions wherever you are.

You can find paid weather applications that are more specialized, but The Weather Channel (sponsored by the cable channel of the same name) offers the features most people want in a weather app. You can view forecasts (hourly, 36-hour, and 10-day outlooks), quick access to Weather Channel local and regional video forecasts, severe … Read more

Facebook IPO more fizz than pop

week in review The world's largest social-networking company finally went public -- but the event lacked the punch many had expected from the third-largest IPO in history.

After a 30-minute delay in the stock's anticipated opening, shares took observers on a bit of a rollercoaster ride, shooting up to $43.20 from their $38 opening and then dropping back down to a break-even price.

The company raised $16 billion on the sale of 421.2 million shares in the offering, putting it at a valuation of $104.1 billion.

Microsoft bolsters parental controls with Windows 8

Microsoft aims to give parents more control over their children's computer use on Windows 8 with a new feature announced this week.

"All you have to do is create a Windows user account for each child, check the box to turn on Family Safety, and then review weekly reports that describe your children's PC use."

With these controls and weekly reports, … Read more

How to unsubscribe from the weekly Twitter digest e-mail

Earlier this week Twitter started sending users an e-mail rounding up the prior week's hot topics and tweets. A weekly reminder or update is great for Twitter users who aren't always on the social network. But, for those of us who are on Twitter more than we should be, and already know what happened over the last week, the e-mail is simply more spam.

Luckily, unsubscribing from the e-mail is a simple process.

If you have one of the e-mails sitting in your Inbox right now, scroll to the bottom and click on the unsubscribe link. Your browser … Read more

CTIA show signals future of wireless

week in review CTIA 2012, held this week in New Orleans, was by all accounts mellower than in prior years. Clearly the future will be chock-full of compelling devices featuring Android's Ice Cream Sandwich and LTE data networks.

Perhaps the most impressive unveiling, Samsung's Galaxy S III flagship phone, actually happened days before CTIA 2012 kicked off. … Read more
