Google donated 17,000 Nexus 7 tablets, valued at over $2.7 million, to New Yorkers who were affected by the storm, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday. The tablets are being placed in libraries, senior centers, business, and community centers, according to the governor's office, and will support a range of programs:

Apple shipped enough iPads last quarter to continue its reign as the No. 1 tablet vendor.
For the third quarter, Apple shipped 14.25 million iPads, giving it a market share of 29.7 percent, research firm IHS said on Wednesday. Those numbers were down from the second quarter when shipments totaled 14.62 million and market share rang in at 33.5 percent.

Apple could sell as many as 51.5 million iPhones during the holiday quarter, says Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley.
In an investors note out Tuesday, Walkley said he expects strong sales of the iPhone 5S through December as Apple bumps up supply to meet the heavy demand. The more expensive 5S is currently outselling the 5C by a ratio of 2.5 to 1, according to the analyst.
