Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S5 phone could try to compete on price as well as features.
Following "encouragement" from at least one wireless carrier, Samsung may sell the new S5 for less than previous S phones, a "person familiar with the matter" told Bloomberg. The goal would be to compete against not just Apple and HTC but also lesser-known rivals who price their products for budget-conscious consumers, according to the report on Tuesday.

Apple may be getting closer to production of its A8 processor as news from Asia points to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) as the main supplier.
That report jibes with a source who CNET spoke to December. That person, who is familiar with TSMC's plans, said that Taiwanese contract chip manufacturer had already begun making Apple's A series processors. To date, Samsung has been the sole manufacturer of Apple's processors.
But TechNews takes this a step further, claiming that TSMC … Read more
There seems to be one prerequisite for competing in the phone market: you have to compare yourself to Apple, mock Apple, and generally declare that Apple products are nothing more than store-label caviar.
Huawei has decided that it won't stoop to such things. Instead, it will mock both Apple and Samsung.
