Angry Birds adds 15 new levels, support for Retina iPad

Those Angry Birds are still angry even though they can now hang out on the beach with 15 new levels.

Flying in today to iPhone and iPad users, version 2.2 of the original Angry Birds nestles in with a whole new set of challenges.

A new section dubbed Surf and Turf offers 15 levels where you can slingshot the angry birds at the piggies just trying to get a tan at the beach. As usually, the levels start off easy but get more difficult as you move along.

But don't worry, if you bump into trouble getting through … Read more

Retina MacBook Pro buyers can now choose CPU, storage options

Consumers eyeing a Retina MacBook Pro now have a choice of CPU, drive storage size, and other options.

Apple has revamped the order page for both flavors of the new MacBook Pro with a build-to-order configuration. So you can now pick your options based on the features you want and how much money you're willing to spend.

Previously, buyers looking for the less-expensive 2.3GHz model were forced to move up to the pricier 2.6GHz version if they needed a beefier CPU or more hard drive storage, noted Apple blogging site MacRumors.… Read more

Rumor Has It: iPhone 5 isn't the only trick up Apple's sleeve

On this week's show, we discuss the latest iPhone 5 release date rumors, Samsung's possible Retina Display, and an alleged new tablet from Sony, and we wonder if Apple is really interested in buying a stake in Twitter.

The New York Times came out with a report over the weekend describing talks between Apple and the 140-character proselytizer. The report alleged that Apple has considered buying a minority stake in Twitter, a company that hasn't yet filed an IPO. The Wall Street Journal chimed in to say the talks were more than a year ago, and its … Read more

Google's Chrome adds support for Retina Display

Google's Chrome can now serve up Web pages that show off Apple's Retina display in all its glory.

Until now, Google's popular browser did not support the display on Apple's newest MacBook Pro. The Retina screen has a 2880x1800 pixel density (220 pixels per inch). It is the highest pixel density, by far, of any laptop in its class.

Back in June, Google said: "Apple recently announced a new laptop with a Retina high-resolution screen, and we're committed to polishing Chrome until it shines on that machine."

And that's exactly what Google did yesterday. … Read more

Samsung 11.8-inch tablet revealed in court documents

Dozens of Apple and Samsung products are being leaked to the public in the blockbuster patent trial that got started in San Jose, Calif., today. The latest of these leaks comes from court documents that show Samsung might be working on an 11.8-inch tablet with "Retina Display," according to The Verge.

Codenamed "P10," this tablet would reportedly have LTE connectivity, 2,560x1,600-pixel resolution, and a pixel density of 256 ppi, according to The Verge. This is much bigger than the iPad tablet, which currently features a 9.5-inch screen, 2,048x1,536-pixel resolution, and … Read more

Vizio meets the MacBook: Part 2

Vizio's new ultrabook-style laptops have a kink or two to iron out before they can take on the MacBook.

Last week, I wrote about my experience with Vizio's new ultrathin laptops -- which are just beginning to become widely available -- at the Microsoft store in Los Angeles. After sitting down and using the 14- and 15-inch "Thin+Light" laptops, I was wowed by their displays.

And that's what I focused on, since that's a crucial feature to get right if you take on the MacBook -- particularly now with the Retina MacBook Pro. … Read more

Rumor Has It: iPhone 5's annoying new 'feature'

Even Tim Cook seems to be hinting that a new phone is right around the corner. But it may frustrate people updating from an earlier device, as trusted news source Reuters is reporting that the new device will boast a smaller 19-pin dock connector. What will that mean for compatibility with older accessories, like speaker docks? A headache.

Also on today's show, the youngest child in the MacBook Pro line may get some love from Apple soon; Nokia's mathematicians may have figured out a novel way to save the company; and the BlackBerry PlayBook isn't dead, and … Read more

13-inch Retina MacBook Pro due in September, says analyst

Apple buyers looking for a smaller and less expensive Retina MacBook Pro may soon get their wish.

A 13-inch MacBook Pro is expected to join its larger 15-inch cousin this September, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Sharing an investors note with AppleInsider, Kuo said that the new laptop would offer consumers an "attractive" alternative to the non-Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air due to the higher-resolution screen.

The analyst believes the unit's appeal will be enhanced by its combination of low power consumption and smaller form factor. And for more budget-conscious buyers, the … Read more

Retina MacBook Pro wait time drops to 1-2 weeks

Consumers looking to pick up a Retina MacBook Pro now face a shorter wait time.

The estimated ship time for the new MacBook Pro model has trickled down to 1-2 weeks, according to Apple's U.S. Web site. This new estimate follows the roller coaster ride originally faced by prospective buyers.

Apple initially promised a ship time of 2-3 weeks immediately following the debut of the new MacBook Pro. That soon shot up to a month but then shrank to 3-4 weeks before returning to 2-3 weeks.

The new 1-2 week wait time seems to be the norm across the world, … Read more

Vizio meets the MacBook

Vizio is the latest to make a run at Apple's MacBook. So far, I like what I see.

The Irvine, Calif.-based company's "Thin + Light" laptops are front and center at the Los Angeles Microsoft store these days.

I counted six Vizio ultrabooks. That's more -- a lot more in most cases -- than any other single vendor in the store.

And the Vizio ultrabook display setup screams Apple. Walk into any Apple store and you'll see display tables full of the newest MacBooks. For instance, the MacBook Pro Retina is currently displayed six … Read more
