How to reopen closed windows and tabs in Safari

Most browsers have an easily accessible history option where you can browse through and choose previously visited sites to open again. Not only are histories available, but some browsers including Safari have options for reopening the last closed window or even all the windows from the last session when the browser was run. In Safari these are available in the "History" menu.

Open the last closed window

This feature in Safari is exceptionally useful if you inadvertently close a window containing a page or pages you needed to view. Granted you can always go to the history list … Read more

We got game

It's a massive business, worth more than $20 billion annually in software and hardware sales alone. Its influence reaches every corner of our society and is as mainstream as it comes. I'm not talking about the television industry, believe it or not. I'm talking about video games.

Interactive games, like so many of the products and trends in the marketplace, come straight out of the "everything old is new again" file. Flashback to 1960, when CBS aired the show "Video Village," produced by Heatter-Quigley, the creators of "Hollywood Squares." The show … Read more

History Here launches for Windows Phone 7

Attention all history buffs. The History Channel, which is now simply called "History," has made its entry into the Windows Phone marketplace with History Here, a location-based app that combines GPS with historical content to a "mobile guidebook."

If you've got a new Windows Phone 7 phone, the app costs $2.99 and currently has information on more than 7,000 locations nationwide, but according to the folks at AETN Digital, which made the app, thousands more historical points of interest will be added in the coming months.

As you might expect from an app … Read more

Lights going down on Netscape's Silicon Valley HQ

AllThingsD

With a flick of the switch Thursday at 5 p.m, PDT, a critical chapter in Silicon Valley will finally go dark.

That's when AOL officially moves out of the legendary headquarter buildings of Netscape Communications in Mountain View, Calif.--along Ellis Street and East Middlefield Road--to new, snappier digs it is subleasing from Google in Palo Alto, Calif., on Page Mill Road.

AOL will occupy one floor in the new space, while the first floor will be dedicated to start-ups and entrepreneurs.

AOL bought Netscape in late 1998 for $4.2 billion, and had located its office where … Read more

An iPhone app for history buffs

Truth be told, the Ford House app doesn't have much--if anything--to do with cars, at least not directly. It focuses on the life and dream home of Henry Ford's son, Edsel, and Edsel's wife, Elanor, with a little bit of automotive history thrown in for color. In fact, those with a particular fascination with architecture are likely to find the content more enthralling than car enthusiasts, although we know the most die-hard Ford fans will at least find it interesting.

The app features over 60 minutes of exclusive video, many of it exploring the grounds of the … Read more

Ford House museum app tempts history buffs

As someone who comes from a long line of race car drivers and auto enthusiasts, it always comes as a shock to me that I don't bleed straight motor oil when I get a cut or a scrape. It runs that deep, people. Living in a city that is a cinch to traverse on foot or public transit has helped to temper my vehicular attachment, but every once in a while a product like the Edsel & Elanor Ford House iPhone app will bring it writhing to the surface once again.

Truth be told, the Ford House app doesn'… Read more

At 15, Microsoft's Internet Explorer at a crossroads

Thanks to corporate use and ties to Windows, Internet Explorer has remained dominant in the browser space ever since it won the first browser wars with Netscape a decade ago.

However, by allowing the browser to stagnate after the release of Windows XP in 2001, Microsoft created an opening that paved the way for the rise of Firefox and, more recently, Google's Chrome.

As a result Internet Explorer celebrates its 15th birthday Monday as market leader and like an upstart trying to compete against powerful rivals.

Arguably, the browser has never been more important--or competitive. As of July, Microsoft … Read more

Google brings browsing History to Android, iPhone

One of the "smartest" features of an iPhone and Android phone is the capability to pull up as search suggestions previously visited URLs when you begin typing your destination into the browser.

On Tuesday, Google offered its own take for the Android- and iPhone-optimized version of Google.com in the form of a new History link.

If you're signed in to Google and you've also enabled search history in the Settings (Settings > Search History > Save Searches), then tapping the new History link that's sandwiched between your username and the "Sign out" … Read more

Google mobile gets a Web search history tool

Google has more deeply integrated its Web search history product into the mobile version of its search home page. Users in the U.S. who are accessing Google from a compatible mobile phone will see a new history option on the bottom of the page that takes them to a mobile-friendly version of their last 10 searches, along with what time they were queried and from what device. Additional results can then be loaded in 15 at a time.

To use the new listing, which is simply an optimized version of the Web history product that's been around since early 2007, … Read more
