Galaxy Font For FlipFont@ free 1.1 Review

You're lucky if your Android gadget came with more than three fonts by default. Galaxy Font For FlipFont@ free tries to liven things up by adding around 20 fonts to your phone, but it isn't terribly easy to install. While the fonts are certainly stylish, you might have more trouble than you want actually getting them onto your gadget.

This font pack is designed to work with a program called FlipFont®, which is remarkably hard to find online. Samsung and Nokia devices can usually get it, but most other phones will need to be rooted to install … Read more

Android 4.1 launches for Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket

Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket owners finally have their shot at Android 4.1.

Available as of Wednesday, the Jelly Bean flavor of Android can be downloaded courtesy of AT&T.

Users can update their OS to Android 4.1.2 by following the how-to page on the carrier's Web site. The update does require Galaxy S2 Skyrocket users to download the software through Samsung's Kies and then sync it with their mobile phone.

Jelly Bean offers a number of enhancements over its predecessor, as an AT&T blog points out.

The notification screen organizes updates … Read more

As Galaxy screen grows, Surface may shrink

CNET Update believes all Google accounts go to Heaven:

There's quite a bit of movement in Thursday's tech news roundup. Samsung pushes pocket limits with a new smartphone that boasts a 6.3-inch screen. Microsoft is expected to shrink the Surface for the popular 7-inch mini-tablet market. And the poor PC market has fallen to a record low, and the fingers point to Windows 8.

And what about wearable computers? The first units of Google Glass will be shipping within the next month. A group of investment firms -- called the Glass Collective -- are funding companies that … Read more

Cops allegedly get violent at sight of Samsung Galaxy

Cell phones have that certain power to record events that are occurring in the public sphere.

Sometimes, though, those who wield power aren't so keen to be filmed when they are exercising their might.

Here, for example, is one police officer who seems to believe that the Samsung Galaxy is a weapon.

I hadn't been aware that a slight increase in gadget-size could send it into the same category as, say, a machete.

However, in this footage a member of the San Diego Police Department seems to take great objection to being filmed on a Galaxy while writing … Read more

Sprint ups Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE to Android 4.1

Sprint today announced the Android 4.1.2 update for the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE.

Sprint, on a bit of a roll, has begun rolling out Jelly Bean to the budget-friendly smartphone. Available starting today, the software update brings the standard suite of Android 4.1 features to the notifications, camera, and to the OS as a whole.

With the update, Victory users will gain access to Google Now, expandable and actionable notifications, and an updated Android Beam that now shares files as well as URLs and maps. Also present are Jelly Bean's lock screen widgets, smarter home … Read more

HTC's 'Facebook' First will be front and center at AT&T

The Facebook-powered HTC First can count on at least one close friend: AT&T.

The Dallas-based wireless carrier, which is the exclusive partner to Facebook and HTC for the First, is promising to give the device its most prominent position in stores when it launches on Friday. That's because AT&T considers the HTC First its flagship smartphone for the spring, Claudia Knop, a device executive with the carrier, told CNET.

It's a curious decision by AT&T, which also has the HTC One and Galaxy S4 waiting in the wings. While AT&T … Read more

T-Mobile's 4G LTE impresses in real-world tests (hands-on)

Two weeks ago, when T-Mobile announced that its 4G LTE had launched, CNET's own Brian Bennett gave the network a test run in New York across three handsets: the iPhone 5, the HTC One, and the BlackBerry Z10.

But as most of us know, the carrier's 4G LTE isn't actually live now in New York; it was turned on temporarily just for the press conference. Currently, if you want to experience T-Mobile's fledgling 4G LTE, you'll need to be in Baltimore; Houston; Kansas City, Mo.; Las Vegas; Phoenix; San Jose, Calif.; or Washington, D.C.… Read more

Samsung Galaxy S4 launch ads: Not a whiff of an iPhone joke

Should you play nice when you're doing well? Or should you seek the jugular, machete in hand?

It seems now that Samsung is in a confident position, it no longer needs to mock Apple. BlackBerry might be another matter, of course. That brand has a business which Samsung covets.

But when it comes to launching the Galaxy S4, Samsung is steering a course very much down the middle of taste, the road and, who knows, America.

I am grateful to Business Insider for pointing the way toward three new ads to celebrate Samsung's next big device.

They are … Read more

Apple's hazy, big-screen iPhone ambitions

The suspense is building. After Samsung and HTC upped the game with their recent Android phones, the Galaxy S4 and the One respectively, the focus is shifting to what comes next from Apple.

Various analysts who track Apple and mine information from its supply chain are predicting an early summer debut for a new flagship iPhone. Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets is expecting more. He is predicting that Apple will offer the new iPhone in at least two and possibly three screen sizes.

His call is underpinned by the growing demand for larger displays, and the belief that Apple … Read more

Samsung Galaxy simpler than iPhone, survey says

I like to think I'm very simple.

Lovers have told me I'm not -- often while they toss my Golden State Warriors T-shirts out their apartment windows and curse quite loudly.

So simplicity is an entirely subjective concept.

In my own subjectivity (and that of many others), Apple's phones have always seemed so very simple to grasp. Both physically and emotionally.

But now, very vast brains have come along to declare that this might not be so.

Branding agency Siegel+Gale -- motto: "Simple is smart" (sigh) -- claims it used a proven (and presumably … Read more
