Announced on Friday, the "Black Edition" of the handsets uses a dark black front and a faux leather rear cover that echoes the design of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Just keep in mind that the changes are cosmetic only, and Samsung has left the phone's internals alone.
We need cores -- lots of cores. Luckily, the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo has six of 'em.
The spin-off of the Note 3 phablet boasts a hexa-core processor. That's two 1.7GHz cores for hard work like graphically intensive gaming and four 1.3GHz cores for more menial everyday tasks. The six cores are backed up by 2GB of RAM. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The Note 3 Neo boasts a 5.55-inch screen with a 1,280x720-pixel resolution. It's high definition, so movies will look crisp. But the 265 dot-per-inch pixel density is … Read more
We appear to be ticking down to the inevitable release of the next Samsung flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. That means we first have to wade through a froth of rumors well before the actual product ever gets announced (likely in March or April). When it comes to the S5, there are some fun possibilities on the table.
One suggestion is that there will be two versions, a plastic-body version and a premium metal-body version. That's potentially good news for fans of metal phones who like the durability.
Another interesting upgrade would be the rumored rapid-charging battery. Smartphone battery life is a big recurring complaint these days. If this rumor pans out, the S5 would have a 20 percent greater capacity in the same footprint as its predecessor, and it would also charge up in less than two hours.… Read more
With the curvy G Flex, it's LG -- and not Apple -- that is showing it can "think different."
The G Flex, which arrives in the US via Sprint stores on Friday, with AT&T and T-Mobile following suit in the next few days, shakes up the normal conventions of the flat, rectangular slab of a touch-screen device pioneered by the iPhone. It was one of two curved phones that debuted late last year, the other being Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Round.
The immediate benefit is obvious: The curved design better conforms to your face, offers a … Read more

Samsung will be going with the Galaxy S5 branding for its next flagship handset, @evleaks revealed in a screenshot on Twitter on Wednesday.
The revelation was one of a few posted by the often-accurate @evleaks.
In addition to confirming that the follow-up to the Galaxy S4 will be the Galaxy S5 -- a rumor that has been debated to some degree -- @evleaks also says that the device will come with a 2K-resolution display and a fingerprint scanner, reflecting earlier rumors surrounding the device.… Read more
The holidays proved to be a boon for the tablet market. Worldwide shipments of the iPad, Kindle, Galaxy Note, and other tablets grew to 76.9 million in the fourth quarter of 2013. That's 62.4 percent growth over the previous quarter. For the full year of 2013, tablet shipments totaled 217.1 million, up from 144.2 million in 2012 -- which equals a growth rate of 50.6 percent.
Samsung thinks the Touch ID feature in the iPhone 5S is a pretty nifty idea worth including in its upcoming Galaxy S5, if a note from a Chinese analyst with a pretty solid track record of predicting upcoming smartphone features (including Touch ID) turns out to be accurate.
Consumers eyeing the iPad Air can shave $50 off the price through a new Best Buy sale.
Running Friday and Saturday only, the sale covers all models of the Air. Those of you looking for something smaller can save $30 off the first-generation iPad Mini.
The retailer is also tempting mobile phone buyers with a variety of deals. Samsung's Galaxy S4 will be free through Verizon on Friday and Saturday and free through AT&T from Friday through Saturday, February 2. The S4 is currently $50 through Sprint, a sale that will end on February 2.

The rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo might soon be officially announced, if a recent leak is to be believed.
Samsung-tracking site Sammobile on Thursday said that it received a tip from a reader claiming that a Galaxy Note 3 Neo preorder page has been designed and will soon go up on a Belgian retailer Web site. Wearable tech has a single large challenge: it's wearable. Many people don't want to wear their gadgets, and if they do, they want that thing to be perfect, stylish, useful, and non-annoying. Most wearable tech right now fails at being any of that.
And so, welcome to 2014. Can any gadget emerge that hopes to be that thing, that perfect little easy-to-understand and highly-desirable thing? Plenty of companies (AppleGoogle, coughcough) stand the best chance of offering one. Based on what I've seen so far, across dozens of devices, I can cobble together a dream gadget. This is … Read more
