T-Mobile's got some harsh words for the changes to AT&T's no-contract service plans.
Calling them confusing and expensive, T-Mobile marketing executive Andrew Sherrard said in an e-mail to CNET that the "'me-too' off-contract rate plan misses the mark."
AT&T earlier on Thursday unveiled changes to its mobile share plans that would offer savings to people who sign up for the service without signing a contract, meaning they pay full price for a new phone, bring their phone, or sign up for the monthly installment program, AT&T Next.

Jay Rooney, a self-described communcations geek, is like any other consumer who wants the best deal. While he was thinking about switching from AT&T to T-Mobile, Rooney accidentally touched off a Twitter slap-fight for the ages when he tweeted this missive: "Just found out that @tmobile doesn't charge extra for overseas data. What the hell am I still doing with @ATT?"
T-Mobile took notice of Rooney's tweet and immediately went to work wooing him with a personal tweet, promoting itself as an alternative to old-school wireless carriers. However, AT&T wasn't going to stand idly by while one of its customers was sweet-talked over to a competitor, and the following exchange ensued.… Read more
Verizon and AT&T are both trying to unload their stock of BlackBerry Z10 phones.
Those deals represent a major price drop for the Z10, which originally sold for $199 through both carriers. But the phone has failed to light much of a fire under consumers. In September, BlackBerry reported a fiscal second-quarter loss of $965 million, with most of the blame pinned on a $934 million write-down in inventory of the Z10.… Read more

San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman criticized carriers for rejecting their proposal to install a "kill switch" in smartphones to deter theft, a move they called "highly disturbing."
The officials said yesterday the carriers rebuffed the plan, which would have rendered lost or stolen phones inoperable -- a kind of LoJack for smartphones. It was part of the "Save Our Smartphone" coalition the officials launched in June, which started by opening a dialogue with the handset vendors.
But it wasn't the handset manufacturers, including companies such … Read more
