What began as a freeware project to easily share basic screen captures and screen recordings has grown into a solid application and capture distribution system with a premium component. Jing's attractive application takes a sound, simple approach to capturing; begin by dragging the crosshairs to define your capture field and then take a still or start a recording. When you're done, save it to your computer or upload it to Screencast.com (operated by Jing's publisher), an FTP site, Flickr, or YouTube (for a premium). If you've got Snagit or Camtasia Studio, TechSmith's premium programs … Read more

Screenshot Magic offers users the ability to capture a picture of anything that graces their computer's screen. While it works well, users may be turned off by this program's confusing interface.
This program's interface demands a trip to the Help menu from the moment its simple collection of radio buttons and menus appears on screen. Without this program's informative Help file, most users would be lost, as Screenshot Magic's simple screen captures are the result of careful option selection at this stage. Once users determine whether they'd like a desktop shot, a screen capture, … Read more
IE Screenshot Pro boosts your image-clipping capabilities for Web screenshots with tools that integrate with your browser. While it doesn't have some of the features found in other screenshot utilities, it performed well when put to the test.
When you find a Web site you'd like to capture, just click on the Screenshot Pro icon. A drop-down menu presents easy to understand options for saving an individual frame (which just makes a screenshot of what fits into the browser screen), saving the full page as an image, or sending by e-mail. The extras are limited, but useful, and … Read more
Looking for a new video game this month? There's something for everyone in April. Here's a list of a few titles we think you should have a look at. This month, you can head up the family as The Don in The Godfather II from EA.
Are music games more your style? Rhythm Heaven forces you to keep a beat and master timing with your stylus. Be sure to try out intergalactic sheep-herding in Flock, available on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC.
If you need many screen captures, this tool makes it easy to grab them, but you may run into a barrier with the trial period. It's 30 days (which is adequate) or three sessions (which is brief), whichever comes first. We had a few other quibbles that left us unwilling to part from the reliable, old, built-in PrintScreen.
Screenshot Master installs a small icon in your system tray. Using this tool is very easy, because you just click the icon to make it work or to access its setup menu. The menu launches a well-designed configuration dialog box that … Read more

While we normally appreciate user guidance, the pop-up how-to guides got in the way of what proved to be an effective tool for capturing and manipulating images.
Ashampoo Magical Snap adds an expandable toolbar to the top of your window that lets you capture entire Web pages or specific selections. It also captures desktop and window screenshots--basically anything that appears on your screen. Once you make a selection, pop-up how-to guides walk you through the editing process. We found them a little overwhelming, and appreciated the option to turn them off. Once you capture an image, the toolbar smartly changes … Read more
Quickly and easily grab screenshots and edit them with this handy Internet Explorer add-on. Although it's lacking a few of the niceties included with the version for Firefox, this freeware is still impressive.
FireShot for Internet Explorer places a nondescript button on your toolbar. The button contains a drop-down menu with options for editing and capturing screenshots, and accessing your preferences. But unlike the Firefox version, it does not include a status bar shortcut icon, which was nice for one-click access to buttons for editing, uploading, copying, and e-mailing captured screenshots. During our first go-around, we clicked the toolbar … Read more
