Scientists have a problem. They want to study how dinosaurs walked, but there are no dinosaurs left to observe. So they turned to some of their modern cousins, chickens. But chickens don't have quite the same anatomy. So, what's a scientist to do? Make fake dino-tails for chickens to wear, a concept that appeals not just to scientists, but also to people who like to dress up their pets in funny costumes.
A group of scientists from the University of Chile and the University of Illinois at Chicago published a paper on chicken-walking observations in the online PLOS ONE journal. The study, titled "Walking Like Dinosaurs: Chickens with Artificial Tails Provide Clues about Non-Avian Theropod Locomotion," details how test chickens were outfitted with fake tails and their movements observed to learn more about the way dinosaurs went for a stroll.… Read more
Xbox One users can expect two major updates to hit their consoles over the coming weeks.
Revealed by Xbox Corporate Vice President Marc Whitten in a blog on Wednesday, the first update will launch on February 11 with several fixes and features. The successor to the HTC One may offer not one, but two rear cameras, at least according to an alleged photo tweeted on Tuesday.
Served up by a Twitter account called @HTCFamily.ru, the photo purports to show the rear casing of the HTC M8 with two camera lenses clearly on view near the top. Assuming the image is accurate, this means the upcoming new phone, codenamed the HTC M8, should be more adept at keeping your photos in focus.
HTC may not roll out its next major phone until the end of March. At least, that's the latest tidbit spilled by renowned leaker @evleaks.
In a tweet posted Sunday, @evleaks said: "Starting to look like a late March, NYC launch for HTC M8." Rumored to also go by the name of the HTC One 2 or HTC One+, the phone will reportedly come in a dual-SIM version, according to documentation discovered by Boy Genius Report. Little else is known about the phone at this point, though in a later tweet, @evleaks said that the M8 looks strikingly like the M7 … Read more
Powering on the Xbox One by voice command is a pretty cool feature, though you might feel a little silly doing so at first. Responding to the "Xbox on" command is one of the features of instant-on power mode. Instant-on power mode starts up the Xbox One in just 2 seconds and also lets automatic updates occur. For those who frequently play games, watch videos via Netflix and Amazon, or have live TV set up, instant-on will probably be the preferred power mode. For all others, the energy-saving mode may be the better choice.

The Alcatel One Touch Fire, one of the inaugural phones to sport Mozilla's Firefox OS, won't get version 1.2 of the browser-based operating system -- but it will get 1.3.
That's the word from Mozilla and Alcatel. And although it's an inauspicious start for the browser-based operating system, it's likely a relief to those who feared Firefox OS 1.1 would be the end of the line. One unpleasant aspect of low-end Android phones is that they often don't get OS updates, but Firefox OS hasn't been around long enough to … Read more
