Stream video on your Android device using Dropbox

Loading up your device with video files can take up precious storage, as well as take up time while you pick and choose what goes on, what doesn't, and waiting for it to transfer over. With the release of version 2.1.4 of Dropbox for Android, those users who are running Android 4.0 can now stream video files stored in their Dropbox account.

First thing you'll need to do is grab the latest version of Dropbox from the Play Store. After that simply navigate to any video files in your Dropbox account, tapping on the one … Read more

Android 4.0.3 update out for T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy S II

Samsung Galaxy S II owners on T-Mobile can update to Android 4.0.3, but they may have to jump through a few hoops first.

The latest flavor of Ice Cream Sandwich launched as of yesterday evening for Samsung's Galaxy S II. Owners of the phone can learn how to install it via a T-Mobile support page. But be forewarned -- the update isn't available over the air (OTA), meaning you can't download it directly to your phone.

Instead, you have to install it via Samsung's Kies software, which requires you to download and install the … Read more

Verizon Droid Razr HD leaks dripping out all over

The forthcoming Droid Razr HD is dripping out in leaks all over the place.

There's a few drops here of leaked pics showing a beefy, rimless back-plate, and another drop here of a leaked benchmark test showing the Razr HD running Android 4.0.4 on a 1.5GHz processor.

This follows some earlier photo leaks and appearances of the Razr HD moniker in certain device databases.

The sources who apparently snapped the typically blurry pics also claim that the centered camera will be capable of 13 megapixels and, naturally, HD video. It appears to be without the familiar … Read more

Toshiba Excite tablet reviews: Say hello to the family

Although the Toshiba Excite 10 has already been out since May, the rest of the family is due to be released in just a few days and they're all excited (ha! see what I did there?) to hit the market.

On June 10, the two remaining members of Toshiba's lineup of tablets are due to hit stores. These Wi-Fi-enabled devices all run on Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich and they're powered by Tegra 3, quad-core processors. Oh, and they're also all kind of expensive.

The smallest-size option is the Excite 7.7. Unlike its big … Read more

New Google TV box will feature Android 4.0, AirPlay-like streaming

A new Google TV box powered by Android 4.0 is coming this summer from Honeywld Technology, according to a story from IDG reporting from Computex.

The new set-top box will apparently feature AirPlay-like capabilities, allowing Android phones to stream media directly to a TV. However, unlike AirPlay, users will need to run a separate app to stream content, which doesn't sound quite as integrated as AirPlay is on iOS devices. (Honeywld also claims that its Android 4.0-powered Google TV is custom software, which implies these new features aren't official Google releases.) The boxes are also said … Read more

Galaxy Nexus drops to a cent on Amazon

Right now you can get a screaming deal on one of the top Android phones around, as long as you're willing to hand over two years of mobile indentured servitude to Verizon.

Google tapped Samsung to make its latest Nexus phone, which went on sale at the end of last year and was the first device to officially come preloaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Half a year later it's still one of the top phones running the OS, and just a few months ago it was still selling for $299.99 with a new contract, so Amazon Wireless' new single-penny price point is a price slash that's splattering savings all over the place.… Read more

Verizon's Motorola Xoom gets Android 4.0 update

A few weeks ago, we reported that two Verizon products, the Motorola Xoom and the HTC Rezound, would soon be slated for an Android 4.0 update. Lo and behold, it's happening -- at least for the Xoom anyway.

Customers on the Big Red are now able to update their tablets (which won our CES Best of Show title in 2011) to the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

New features include the Roboto system font, panoramic shooting, e-mail search, the capability to save Web pages for offline reading, and a photo editor integrated in the Gallery app.

In addition, … Read more

Android 4.0 for Droid Razr delayed, Verizon says June 12

Last month I reported that Motorola Droid Razr and Razr Maxx users might get to taste the sweetness of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as soon as May 21, while Xoom 3G and 4G owners seemed stuck in Honeycomb thanks to an upgrade holding pattern for the foreseeable future.

That was then. Today, Verizon began pushing the Android update to Xoom users while Razr owners like myself are still hanging out in our digital gingerbread houses waiting for the next course of mobile OS dessert.

I got in touch with a source within Verizon to ask for a status … Read more

How to force your Verizon Galaxy Nexus to update to Android 4.0.4

Last week, Verizon Wireless officially announced the Android 4.0.4 update for the Galaxy Nexus. Since then, I've been obsessively checking for the update on my Galaxy Nexus with no luck. But thanks to a forum post on Android Central, there just might be some hope to forcing your Galaxy Nexus to update.

The normal procedure to check for an update is to go into Settings > About Phone > System Update > Check Now.

You can force your device into grabbing the update by going into Settings > Apps > All. From there, scroll down and select … Read more
