Facebook 'unsure' about old Zuckerberg contract

An attorney for Facebook told a federal judge Tuesday that she was "unsure" whether company founder Mark Zuckerberg had signed a contract with a New York man who claims to own 84 percent of the social network.

Paul D. Ceglia of Wellsville, N.Y., claimed in a lawsuit filed in June that he entered into a contract with Zuckerberg in 2003 to design and develop a Web site for $1,000. The contract entitled Ceglia to a 50 percent stake in the final product, which eventually launched as TheFacebook.com, according to his lawsuit, which was filed in … Read more

Survey: Facebook fails at customer satisfaction

Who's worst at customer satisfaction--airline companies, your local cable provider, or Facebook? Well, according to a new study from ForeSee Results, all three are in the dumps, scoring poor grades among consumers.

Released Tuesday by ForeSee Results and the American Customer Satisfaction Index, the latest annual ACSI e-business report gave Facebook a score of 64 out of 100, one of the lowest levels of customer satisfaction among all businesses measured and on par with airlines and cable companies.

When asked what they like most about Facebook, those surveyed focused on the same general theme of being connected and staying … Read more

Playboy launches site you can ogle at work

Playboy without naked DD-list celebrities is like a cupcake store that only serves coffee.

At least that is what one might imagine. Now, one no longer has to rely on one's imagination, because I am informed by Fox News that Playboy is determined to capture your eyeballs while you struggle with your daily cubicled lives.

It has therefore launched a new site, sans the obvious pneumatic allure. TheSmokingJacket.com, which is, I believe, something of a reference to Playboy founder Hugh Hefner's penchant for wandering around in such a garment, is still quite obviously essential male viewing.

Teen trades old cell phone on Craigslist, gets Porsche

This is the story of enterprise in hard times. It is the story of a teen who dedicated himself to improving his lot. It is the story of how one young man turned an old cell phone into a Porsche. Without any money changing hands.

Steven Ortiz is a man who understands what it is to be committed. So, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, he spent around six hours a day on his iPhone, trawling Craigslist's barter section, seeking deals that would somehow make his asset base seem more impressive.

While his enterprise hasn't quite reached … Read more

Sarah Palin inspires Shakespeare Twitter meme

There are those who believe that Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, has suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.

However, I believe that she has unquestionably been misunderestimated. It seems clear that she is far more in demand, far more influential, and certainly far wealthier than the majority of her critics.

In order to show just how great an impact her every word can have on society, Palin has inspired a new, vibrant meme on Twitter, one that allows those who were lazy and complacent in high school to finally exercise the relics of their inner literary … Read more

The site that likens Zuckerberg to Douglas Adams

We all have a writer within us. The only question is, which one?

A quite mesmerizing site called I Write Like allows you to enter a piece of your writing and discover whose style it most closely resembles. Naturally, this is a source of huge amusement. And, after a week of stress, family troubles, and dropped calls, how can one not turn to this site for a little innocent joy?

I first thought I'd look at other people's writing, just to see who their conscious or subconscious influences might have been. So I reached for a random speech … Read more

How to block your ex from the Web

Relationships come. Relationships go. Sometimes relationships outstay their welcome. But that doesn't mean that scars aren't left and bruises aren't felt, in deep recesses, for days, nay, years.

So might I introduce you to a browser plug-in called Ex-Blocker? This fine invention claims to be able to remove all traces of your Tracy or Sam from the lifeblood of your Web experience.

The Ex-Blocker home page is a little light on how it might actually get rid of those who have caused you pain, grief, or merely bankruptcy of pocket and ideas.

However, at the time of … Read more

Facebook doesn't see dead people

I used to live in a haunted house. The lady who wandered around it in a white nightdress seemed benign enough. She never deliberately startled me or said "boo" and never made a mess. I think she was simply looking for something or someone she'd left behind. It wasn't me, as she had died, I believe, somewhere around 1672.

Facebook now has a similar issue to deal with. Around its vastly populated house, there are people who waft away to the next firmament without leaving a note or even saying goodbye. But they're still there. … Read more

RIM to Apple: Bull

Somehow, you knew this might happen.

After Apple CEO Steve Jobs explained at Friday's iPhone 4 press conference that all smartphones have antenna problems similar to the one experienced by the iPhone 4, RIM, the maker of the BlackBerry, declared that in its view this is hogwash.

In a rather forceful and entertaining statement, RIM co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie made their feelings rather clear.

Their statement began: "Apple's attempt to draw RIM into Apple's self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple's claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public's … Read more

Whoopi Goldberg smashes up her iPhone 4

As the iPhone 4 is tossed in the winds, real and imaginary, of public relations, one of America's most influential commentators admitted she had assaulted, nay, "murdered," her new iPhone.

Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of ABC's "The View" (required viewing by so many who live their lives outside of office environments), confided to her co-host Joy Behar and guests that her iPhone 4 didn't merely keep dropping calls, but generally behaved like, well, a 1972 Datsun.

People couldn't get hold of her, she said. They thought her phone was ringing. She could hear … Read more
