The 2013 TVs of CES are bigger and smarter, but what about the picture?

Will flat-panel TV picture quality get even better in 2013?

I'm guessing "Yes" in the case of the Best of CES nominee Panasonic TC-PZT60 and the re-engineered Samsung UNF8500, very likely the two best-performing TVs of 2013 under $10,000.

But those two are hardly the TV hardware poster children of the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show, where all the headlines touted expensive 4K and OLED sets -- still stupid and chronically under-delivered, respectively -- as well as new gadgetry of questionable usefulness. LG's LA6900 TVs to feature voice control, Magic Motion remote

LAS VEGAS--If you're looking for a midrange television, then one of the LG televisions to consider in 2013 is the LA6900 series, which will come in three sizes: 50-inch, 55-inch, and 60-inch.

LAS VEGAS--Pricing information is usually hard to come by at CES in January. Manufacturers have just debuted their newest products, and final suggested retail prices are usually subject to some jockeying before the products launch over the next few months.

That's why I was surprised when my colleague Matthew Moskovciak sent me a message saying that Panasonic's official site, shop.panasonic.com, was showing pricing and other details for TVs the company had just announced this morning.

LAS VEGAS--The E series is Vizio's mainstream line of TVs for 2013, with myriad size and feature levels, but one feature shared among most of them is Smart TV.

Vizio's M TV, shipping now, means major features up to 80 inches

Vizio is traditionally known for cheap TVs, but in 2013 it's doubling down on its foray into step-up, feature-rich (read: slightly more expensive) territory with the 4K XVT models announced at CES and the all-new non-4K "M" series detailed here.

The company's newest M range of LED-based LCD TVs goes from 32 inches up to the company's first 80-inch model, the M801d pictured above. All of the sizes in the series are shipping now to retailers nationwide including Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart.
