Apple: 3 million iPads sold in 80 days

In less than 3 months, Apple has sold 3 million iPads, the company announced Tuesday.

For those keeping score at home, that's 3 million in 80 days, and 1 million sold in the last 20 days alone. Apple announced after 60 days that it had sold 2 million of the touch-screen tablets. It took Apple 28 days to sell the first million.

The company is already blowing past the early expectations of Wall Street. One analyst predicted 2 million iPads would be sold in the first year.

Buzz Out Loud 1253: Google has an honesty problem (podcast)

Here's the thing: Google keeps insisting that the data it snared from open WiFi hotspots isn't a big deal, it's useless, it was an accident, and so on. Report: Tablets to outsell Netbooks in two years

Driven by the allure of the iPad, tablet PCs will surpass Netbooks in sales in just two years, according to a report released Thursday by Forrester Research.

In the U.S. alone, the burgeoning tablet industry is expected to sell 20.4 million units in 2015 compared with just 3.5 million this year, a compound annual growth rate of 42 percent, says Forrester's report "The U.S. Consumer PC Market in 2015." Samsung touts new tablet, smartphones

Samsung will release its Galaxy Tab tablet no later than the third quarter of this year, revealed J.K. Shin, president of the company's mobile communications division, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal published Tuesday.

Report: RIM testing new BlackBerry, tablet

While Apple and Google have been getting the lion's share of attention in the smartphone world of late, Research In Motion isn't going quietly, according to a report.

The Wall Street Journal reports that RIM has a new touchscreen version of its BlackBerry smartphone up its sleeve, this time with a slide-out keyboard. Rumor: Apple Store coming to App Store Tuesday

Those looking to buy Macs or an Apple TV from an iPhone might soon be in luck.

Apple is planning to launch an Apple Store application for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, according to the Boy Genius Report and MacRumors. Citing only "sources," the publications claim the app will be available for free, launch on Tuesday, and allow consumers to purchase products from their mobile devices. The sources say consumers will also be able to use the app to make Genius Bar appointments and browse the company's entire listing of products.
