XtremeMac upgrades Luna iPod alarm clock to X2

A shrink might find this clock useful

There's still no good purpose for indecipherable watches as far as we're concerned, but we may have actually figured out why people would want a mystery wall clock.

This binary LED table clock could come in handy, for example, in awkward social situations when you're pressed for time but don't want a guest to know you're counting down the seconds till you have to kick them out of the house. Or maybe a therapist could strategically place on a shelf and pretend it's conversation piece.

Better yet, they could be used in casinos, which … Read more

iHome homes in on iPhone and Zune with new audio systems

SDI Technologies, the company behind the iHome series of affordable iPod audio systems, is not surprisingly embracing both iPods and iPhones in 2008, as well as Microsoft's Zune line of portable media devices. SDI is showing off several new products at CES, including an L-shaped alarm clock for the iPod and iTouch (as well as other iPod models) that allow you to change the orientation of the unit so you can watch videos, "while the clock display rotates accordingly to complement the position of the unit." We also liked the looks of the iP51 2.1 Micro … Read more

A clock for math whizzes

Update 7:40 p.m. PST January 6: Thanks to alert reader OneGB for supplying the origin of the clock. The central design may look like a bungled biohazard symbol, but it in fact is another three-nine reference, the "hurricane" symbol of a high-IQ organization called the Triple Nine Society. The group also sells Triple Nine aprons, mugs, bibs, underwear, and other whatnot at CafePress.com.

Math enthusiasts who don't want to move totally into the digital realm might appreciate this analog clock.

Each number is expressed as a calculation involving three instances of the number 9. … Read more

Pavlov would have loved this clock

If we get one of these alarm clocks for Christmas, we're planning to send our doctor bills to the manufacturer because it'll surely be to blame for higher stress levels and the ill affects associated with them. The reason: The "Neverlate Executive Alarm Clock" not only wakes you up but also delivers Pavlovian reminders for various tasks from its programmable "Daily Reminder" log seven times a day.

The clock has other ways to keep your OCD tendencies in top shape, such as different alarm times for the weekends and his-and-her schedules. We've seen … Read more

An English butler to awaken m'lady

Once the madness that is holiday shopping is finally over, what better antidote could there be than an English butler? The lady of the household can now unwrap one of her very own--that is, in the form of an alarm clock that utters gender-specific greetings.

Several months ago we were quite taken with the idea of being awakened in a most civilized manner by the "Jeeves" clock from U.K.-based (naturally) Voco, which featured scores of British quips from the magnificent Stephen Fry. Now a version for m'lady is available as well, with 150 or so … Read more

Cheap R2-D2 projector is stuff of nightmares

As much as we appreciate the occasional Star Wars knickknack, $2,500 seemed a tad steep for an R2-D2 projector. So we were pleased at first upon hearing that a low-budget version would be available.

Until we saw it. The product shots of the "R2-D2 Night Projector" from National Console Support is enough to give a grown man nightmares. First of all, its head pops off, which seems to be a disturbing trend for the poor guy. Second, it looks as if it's projecting some bizarre Dali-like painting on the ceiling instead of the promised Death Star … Read more

Is Philips clock radio/digital photo frame a potential sleeper hit?

Around this time each year I start trolling the Web, looking for potentially interesting products that we should review for the holiday buying season. So, there I was, scanning Amazon for new Philips digital photo frames, and lo and behold I came across this $130 Philips AJL308 7-Inch Digital Picture Frame, Alarm Clock, Radio and MP3 player. For some reason, I hadn't seen it before.

The Amazon product description reads as follows:

"This is the perfect item for your bedside, as it functions as a clock radio, alarm clock, and digital picture frame. This beautifully styled dual alarm … Read more
