Airport Scanner doesn't make it off the ground

When it comes to iOS games, we tend to prefer the simple ones that require strategy, but with simple gameplay. After a quick read-through of Airport Scanner's description, we jumped at the chance to review it because of its simple premise: As a TSA officer, you have to watch an X-ray scanner to identify harmful items and prevent them from being taken onto the plane. But a cluttered design and barrage of pop-up tips and lessons made the game more annoying than fun to play.

Airport Scanner doesn't have any kind of Help feature, but, thankfully, the game … Read more

3D photo booth prints your whole body pose

Flat photos are so last year. What may be the world's first 3D photo booth is about to open in Japan. The Omote 3D photo booth creates action-figure-size versions of posing people.

Unlike an old-fashioned photo booth, you will only get one "photo." This might not be the best way to capture a proposal, for example. You and your soon-to-be-fiance would just be standing there as you wait the 15 minutes it takes for the 3D scanner to capture your image.… Read more

Get a Canon multifunction printer and Bluetooth mouse for $50

Need to print something? Copy something? Scan something? Aw, that's so cute and quaint.

But necessary, sometimes. And cheap, today.

For a limited time, Canon has the refurbished Pixma MG5320 multifunction printer and X Mark Mouse for $49.99 shipped.

I'll get to the printer in a minute -- because check out that mouse! It's not only a Bluetooth-powered wireless wheel mouse, but also a calculator and numeric keypad! As someone who was just bemoaning the lack of a keypad on his wee laptop, I'm loving that. It's available in black or white, and normally … Read more

Produces fake body part images for amusement

Body Scanner is an entertainment app that supposedly lets you see through clothes and zoom in on body parts. Of course, Body Scanner doesn't really do anything like that, but it does show a representation of what you'd think is an X-ray image based on what the camera is pointing at. There's no real scanning involved, of course, just photo manipulation.

Of course, this wouldn't be entertainment if the app simply showed a skeletal figure or perhaps just a smooth body skin, so Body Scanner spices things up with some imagination. Some images will show a … Read more

Get a Canon multifunction printer and 4GB flash drive for $29.98

Quick housekeeping note: The deals I share are in stock and available at the time I post them. Unfortunately, the especially awesome ones tend to sell out quickly, sometimes very soon after my post goes live.

Many a frustrated reader will call the company (or one of its stores, if applicable) in hopes of getting that price, only to be told there's "no such deal and there never was," or, "We don't know where CNET got that information."

Most of the deals I find are available exclusively online, though there are exceptions (like the … Read more
