The holidays proved to be a boon for the tablet market. Worldwide shipments of the iPad, Kindle, Galaxy Note, and other tablets grew to 76.9 million in the fourth quarter of 2013. That's 62.4 percent growth over the previous quarter. For the full year of 2013, tablet shipments totaled 217.1 million, up from 144.2 million in 2012 -- which equals a growth rate of 50.6 percent.
You'd be hard-pressed to find a simpler, more natural-feeling note-taking app for the iPad than INKredible. It feels like a stripped-down version of Paper; you don't get many of the sketching tools and instead receive a small selection of writing instruments that feel like the real thing. The app is free and provides a fountain pen, while three other instruments -- calligraphy pen, wet brush, and ballpoint pen -- are available as in-app purchases for 99 cents each. Developer Viet Tran has a more fully featured paid app, Notes Plus, and created INKredible to show off its vector-graphics … Read more
The arrival of the new version of Android saw some third-party accessories (cases, for example) stop working, SamMobile reports. A statement on the subject was provided in German to site AllaboutSamsung.de, but now CNET UK has been sent an English-language reaction from the South Korean tech giant, attributed to a Samsung spokesperson.
"Samsung is aware of the issue with third-party accessories", the Galaxy S4-maker says, "and is currently investigating it."… Read more
The rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo might soon be officially announced, if a recent leak is to be believed.
Samsung-tracking site Sammobile on Thursday said that it received a tip from a reader claiming that a Galaxy Note 3 Neo preorder page has been designed and will soon go up on a Belgian retailer Web site. According to the site, the preorder price is 599 euros ($818). The tipster didn't know, however, when the page might go live.
The Galaxy Note 3 Neo is expected to come with a 5.5-inch display and 8-megapixel camera. It's believed … Read more
Samsung quietly announced that Verizon will be the only US carrier to offer the Galaxy Note 3 in a new color. A short mention on the hardware maker's Web site confirms Verizon will carry the 5.7-inch smartphone in Rose Gold.
Unfortunately, the phone's exact availability isn't clear, but we can assume it'll cost the same as the Jet Black and Classic White versions -- $299.99 on contract. And, while Samsung does have Rose Gold accents for both black and white body colors, it appears Verizon may only carry the white and rose gold version. … Read more
Prolific leaker Evleaks initially posted the above images earlier this month, and then later shared the below shots on Twitter of an apparent new home screen design that borrows from both the tiled look of Windows 8 and the constantly updating "cards" of relevant data that Google Now users will find familiar. … Read more
I've yet to discover a note-taking app that's lasted me more than a week. Typically, I find they require too many taps to create a note or get in and out of an existing note and I soon return to my trusted method of jotting down notes on an actual pad of paper. The thing is, I often wish I had that pad of paper with me instead of my iPhone, which I carry with me pretty much everywhere I go. Thus, I continue on my search for a simple note-taking app.
