Glitch strands Microsoft business customers

Microsoft's efforts to revamp a Web site that handles software licensing for businesses have resulted in hours of frustration for some of the company's most loyal customers.

Problems arose early last month when Microsoft aimed to consolidate three separate Web sites into a single, more secure site. Almost immediately, Microsoft could tell something was wrong as customers were unable to sign into the site.

While unable to log in, business customers and the partners that manage software for businesses can't do things like download software, obtain necessary license keys, and manage volume licenses.

Windows Mobile glitch dates 2010 texts 2016

Microsoft on Tuesday said it is investigating reports of a glitch causing some Windows Mobile devices to attach the wrong date to incoming SMS messages.

The glitch, which applies to text messages sent after New Year's Day, causes them to appear to have been sent in 2016.

"Microsoft is aware of reports that phone messages received after 1/1/2010 may be dated 2016," the software maker said in a statement. Microsoft fixes Office 2003 bug with patch

Microsoft says it has a fix for a bug that was keeping Office 2003 users from being able to access some rights-managed files.

The bug, which cropped up on Friday, meant that users of Office 2003 were unable to access files protected using Microsoft's rights management service (RMS) technology.

Microsoft posted a software download known as a "hotfix" on Saturday that it says resolves the issue.

Bug keeps some Office users from their files

Some users of an older version of Microsoft Office may find that their protected documents are now not only protected, but completely inaccessible.

Microsoft warned on Friday that a glitch is causing users of Office 2003 to be unable to access files protected using Microsoft's Rights Management Service.

The software maker acknowledged the bug on its Office Sustained Engineering blog and said it is working to fix the issue.

Computer glitch slows U.S. air travel

The Federal Aviation Administration says a glitch in its computer system that caused widespread flight cancellations and delays nationwide Thursday has been fixed.

The FAA confirmed to CBS News that its main flight processing system is now back up and running, CBS News correspondent Nancy Cordes reports.

The problem was with the FAA's system that collects airlines' flight plans. It was the second time in 15 months that a glitch in the flight plan system caused delays.

Canon says firmware fixes 7D ghost images

Canon has released new firmware for its EOS 7D camera that it says fixes a ghost-image problem in which faint traces of one image could show in the next.

Version 1.1.0 of the camera firmware "corrects a phenomenon that in images captured by continuous shooting, and under certain conditions, barely noticeable traces of the immediately preceding frame may be visible," Canon said of the update.

The ghost-image problem showed only in some circumstances when the camera was used in continuous-shooting mode and was more apparent when software was used to enhance the image.

Canon 7D photos can show traces of earlier shot

Canon has warned that traces of one photograph taken with the company's new higher-end EOS 7D SLR can sometimes be seen in the next.

The good news: new software for the camera should be able to fix the problem at some point. "Canon is currently investigating and analyzing the cause of this phenomenon, and we are planning to release a firmware update to address this issue," the company said in a a service notice.

Google Apps bug: You've got (my) mail

As a result of a bug in a Google Apps e-mail migration tool, some students at Brown University found other students' e-mail in their in-box over the weekend as Google was moving their e-mail from Exchange to Gmail, Google confirmed on Friday.

The problem affected a "handful" of organizations that use Google Apps, a spokesman said. He declined to specify how many were affected or how many individual users were affected.

We've been talking about the Palm Pre ad nauseam for weeks now leading up to Saturday's release, and Jeff actually woke himself up before the crack of dawn and picked one up.
