Among the thousands of applications for new generic top-level domains that ICANN released today are three to run new .army, .navy and .airforce domains. The applicant isn't the U.S. Department of Defense -- or any other government entity for that matter -- it's those masters of cheap, spammy content, Demand Media.

The military suffixes are three of 26 applications that list United TLD Holdco Ltd. as the applicant -- United TLD is a Cayman Islands-based subsidiary of Demand Media, which runs eHow.com and other sites. Apple's iPad is so popular that it will be just about the only tablet consumers are looking to buy this summer, according to new data from ChangeWave Research.

The research firm today revealed the results of a survey of nearly 2,900 consumers, finding that 73 percent of those who expect to buy a tablet in the next 90 days are planning to go with the iPad. Intel today spelled out in more exacting detail just what the Ivy Bridge chip delay means in the wake of comments published Sunday from an Intel executive.

Three founding executives at Demand Media announced their resignations today after six years with the content farm.

Larry Fitzgibbon, Joe Perez, and Steven Kydd, who were all executive vice presidents, are leaving the company they helped create, a company representative told CNET, confirming a story first reported by PaidContent.

Fitzgibbon oversaw international operations, while Perez was in charge of product and Kydd handled video. Michael Blend, Demand Media's executive vice president of Media & Marketplace for the company, will assume most of their duties.

A company representative said their simultaneous departures were merely a coincidence.
