With explosive drums, fuzzed-out guitars, and Wolfmother-style vocals, YB's first English-language single, "Cigarette Girl," might finally break YB in the West. Though already regarded as the Bon Jovi of South Korea, YB has not made much of a dent stateside -- unless you happened to catch the band at one of its sold-out 2006 NYC performances or at its acclaimed 2007 SXSW showcase. Under new manager Doug Goldstein, who formerly managed Guns N' Roses, Danzig, and Blind Melon, they just might make it here. As YB prepared for its first US mini-tour in seven years, frontman Do-Hyun … Read more
Independent developer Riley Testut released on Wednesday a long awaited update to his polished Game Boy emulator, GBA4iOS, and it's far and away the easiest and best looking way to power up your childhood nostalgia and do some classic Nintendo gaming on the iPhone. The emulator now supports Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, and original Game Boy games.
Beyond its game playing capabilities, the 2.0 update contains all new features, a refreshed design, and, as was the case with Testut's previous effort and the primary source of its notoriety, it can be downloaded on any iPhone … Read more
Apple's interest in the health and fitness market may seem like a new niche, but a related patent goes back almost six years.
Filed in 2008 and awarded by the US Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday, a patent called "Sports monitoring system for headphones, earbuds and/or headsets" describes how such products could track your health and fitness and perform certain tasks based on how you move your head.
Key to the invention would be sensors embedded into one or more areas of the headsets or earbuds. By coming into contact with your skin, these sensors … Read more
When the smartphone phenomenon Flappy Bird took off not so long ago -- and before it morphed into something uncontrollable and became its own hard-to-swallow lesson for the game industry -- it was as if everyone you'd ever known had suddenly stumbled on mobile gaming's most brilliantly manufactured drug. Facebook and Instragram were awash in high score screenshots and admissions of addiction-fueled guilt while all of Twitter might as well have been Flappy Bird references with some news and global chatter sandwiched in between.
One particularly interesting boast from a friend of mine, who had hit … Read more
British alternative rock band Maximo Park just released its fifth studio album (and follow-up to 2012's critically acclaimed "The National Health") "Too Much Information" on February 3. Synth-driven single "Leave This Island" is already burning up my iTunes.
The new album is called "Too Much Information." Are you implying that we're just bombarded with info via our computers and smartphones all day? Yeah, that's definitely a part of it. Being in the music industry, we became quite aware of people's attention becoming so much … Read more

Apple CEO Tim Cook and Samsung Mobile head JK Shin reportedly met last week to hammer out an agreement to their long-running patent feud. The result? No agreement.
Neither company has fessed up to such a meeting. But ZDNet Korea and other sources claim the two execs met in the US after being ordered by the court to try to settle their legal differences amicably. The court reportedly wanted to see a settlement by February 19, but the bad blood between the two companies seems to have been too much of an obstacle.
The court could reveal its final verdict … Read more
Apple's next big thing could be a combination Mac OS-iOS platform that would let iDevices function as full-blown computers. At least, that's the latest forecast from the folks at JP Morgan.
In an investors note released Wednesday, analyst Mark Moskowitz said that Apple may be hit by a weaker smartphone market suffering from customers delaying their upgrades and from more vendors joining forces. But two items in the analyst's crystal ball would give Apple a shot in the arm. One is an iPhone with a 5-inch display. The other is a platform that Morgan Stanley has dubbed … Read more

In addition to talking screen size, the report claimed that the iPhone 6's display would be made entirely of sapphire -- the same material used … Read more
