E3 2007: The wrap-up

Game fans know that E3 is America's big, annual video game trade show, traditionally known for oversize displays and loud music and filled with anyone even vaguely affiliated with the interactive entertainment industry. Until this year, that is. Rebelling against the high costs of the LA-based show, the big game companies instead elected to put on a radically different show in 2007, losing the massive convention center booths and moving to a handful of hotels in Santa Monica, along with cutting attendance to less than 10 percent of last year's.

The great experiment dubbed the E3 Media & … Read more

Show notes - The Queue: D'Oh!

Okay, The Queue went on a short hiatus so I could deal with all of the iPhone madness...but I'm happy to report that I have my iPhone in hand. While I like it for the most part, there are a few things it doesn't do at the moment that I'm hoping Apple will fix in a software update...onto the Queue.

Photos: RCA Pearl

Plug-in-style MP3 players--that is, those with the USB interface built right in--have been enjoying a bit of a renaissance lately, as evidenced by the recent release of the SanDisk Sansa Express. RCA has now joined the trend with the Pearl, one of three players in the company's new Gem line. Like the Express, the Pearl is also aimed squarely at the budget-conscious, with 1GB and 2GB versions retailing for $39 and $48, respectively. Click the pic to see the Pearl in glorious detail, or head over to CNET to read the review.

VW releases Tiguan photos, details

Figuring that its Touareg is too big for some people, Volkswagen will launch a smaller SUV, the Tiguan, at the 2007 Frankfurt auto show. But VW is no tease--the company offered up photos and a short press release today with a few specs. The Tiguan has five different engine options: two diesel and three turbocharged gasoline. Different combinations will be made available worldwide. In the United States, we will most likely get the 200 horsepower version mentioned in the press release, which is most likely the same engine found in the Volkswagen GTI, a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. A version with … Read more

I had the "pleasure" of being joined by Mr. iPhone today. We definitely ruined one man's career on this show and maybe two. But while dealing with the seriously delusional co-host, we also got some questions answered and gained a little mor einsight into the search for the iPhone.

Biggie Mini

For those that find the Mini too, well, mini, the BMW-owned brand is launching a stretch version, spy photos of which appeared on Spanish automotive site Km77.com. We saw various Mini concepts at the 2005 auto shows based on this new stretched Mini, but the new photos show the real deal. Km77.com apparently caught Mini shooting video of its new model in preparation for its launch at the 2007 Frankfurt auto show. The car will be named the Mini Clubman, taking its name from the original Mini Clubman launched in 1969.

Although previous spy shots of the new … Read more
